Caption: MYSTERIES OF THE MIDDLE AGED Explorer: *GASP* Could it be...? It is! I've finally found it!! Woman: Ok, we'll figure out how the car keys ended up in the cookie jar later, but we're late for the Tatullis' dinner party, so let's get going. Man: Ah...Now I remember why I hid them in there.

Until the very last frame, I was convinced that we were looking at someone suffering from early onset dementia. (Since that happened in my family, I was familiar with that…)

You don’t want to go to that dinner party. They’re serving cat nip tonight.

I’m not quite middle age, but I do something similar with things that don’t belong in the refrigerator like the sugar bowl. “Who breaks into a house just to steal some sugar? Op, no, wait. Found it.”

Beware the Mummy’s curse.

Not quite as bad as looking FIRST where you are pretty sure you left them, scouring the house to no avail, then finding them in plain sight in the first place you looked…
Argythree almost 10 years ago
That only works if you are still capable of remembering things easily…

I haven’t misplaced my keys since I made it an automatic habit always to hang them up in the same place when I come home.Unfortunately, I forget where I put just about everything else. Now where’s my phone?
Ida No almost 10 years ago
I can understand why he hid the keys from himself in the first place. I wouldn’t want anything to do with Lio either.

When I used to visit my mother on the weekends, I’d always put my keys in her freezer. That way anything perishable I bought when we were out shopping, I wouldn’t forget to take home with me because I couldn’t start the car without them.

Tatulli? Is Lio going to be there?

Wasbluskies, I always look right over my remote, looking for my remote..And I hold the world’s record in forgetting to take may styrofoam box of leftovers with me when I leave a restaurant…Now I just put my car keys on things I know I’ll forget. Hard to get far without your car keys….

I have had to take a day and a few reads to “get” this comic. But finally I do. I’ve never purposely hid anything to get out of going somewhere before. Or at least, not on a conscious level!

Yes, those are scary moments, and now, too often.
tripwire45 almost 10 years ago
I’m 60 and I have to put my keys, wallet, and phone in the same place at home every day. I’ve also found that writing out lists of the things I need to do is enormously helpful.

Oh my Indiana Jones man. You are so clever.

Why is he wearing a Sherlock Holmes hat in one panel, but an explorer hat in the others?
Vonne Anton almost 10 years ago
Everything is always in the last place you look … well, obviously! *Once, I looked everywhere for my wallet, only to find it in my right hand! How it got there, I’ll never remember.

It’s a long story, but this was actually the object of one of GM’s recent recalls.

Thanks for all the fresh ideas, but mine are still lost.

“…..laying around their house.”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~LYING around their house. (Sorry. I can’t help it — I’ll try until the day I die.)

I just realized. I just went to the ‘indoor facility’ toting my TV remote, (in case someone called to say howdy on my 79th birthday while I was ‘indisposed’)(sigh)….and so it begins.. Already lost five classmates due to whatever we were commenting about…

I’m sure she dribbled leftovers some behind.

IS ANYBODY HERE BESIDES A COUPLE OF OTHER PEOPLE GETTING THAT THE JOKE IS ABOUT MARK TATULLI AND NOT FORGETTING YOUR KEYS?

My ex once put the ice cream in the cupboard and the cereal in the fridge…..and he was only in his late 30’s!!!!
ladylagomorph76 almost 10 years ago
And if you can remember to put them in their place!

It is when you get to a certain age. Logic changes by age. Ask a three year old a question and listen to his logic, do the same with a ten year old, then an eighteen year old, a thirty year old, finally, a senior citizen. Practical logic changes. Moral logic remains the same.

@Bluejayrobin: A hat tip to Mark Tatulli, who writes Lio and Heart of the City

Keep an eye on that quiet kid, and stay away from the cat!

It’s simply a matter of Topology, every one my age (ahem) knows that it’s the shape of doorways.Passing through a doorway causes one to forget what they did with an item – and why they came into the room in the first place…

Twenty some-odd years ago, I lost two watches because I was putting them on over my sweater (my arms are so thin that I have to shove them way up my arm otherwise). I’d take off my sweater in a restaurant and – WOOP! No more watch. Now I am an adherent of the Don’t-EVER-Put-Your-Watch-on-over-your-Sweater religion.
markmoss1 almost 10 years ago
Keep your keys in your pant’s pocket, and you never lose them…

Never had to hide something to avoid going somewhere. Have gotten sick. Sick enough to be in bed with medicine sick. Family stopped telling me where or when we were going. I would still get sick. And I discovered in my early 20’s – always leave the keys and the phone in the same place every day and every night.

I wonder if he was referring to the creator of Lio?
