Remember, Hitler was democratically elected. The cabinet handed power to him because they believed that they could control him. Then they sat back and did nothing as he destroyed the democratic process. Hitler burned down the Reichstag and blamed it on the Communists and Jews. Trump blames it on Mexican rapists and murderers, terrorist Muslims (except Saudis) and immoral LGBT people. For both Hitler and Trump, followers believe blindly. The only hope America has is that Trump is nowhere near as competent, civilized and charismatic as Hitler.
People need to read and learn history. The nazi’s were socialists. They believed in a stronge centralized government, universal health care, the state over the needs of family, no guns in the hands of its citizens, government controlled education. Which group supports these now?
Since there’s a lot of cherry picking and not a lot of reality going on, consider this – the movie Operation Finale shows Eichmann as a well trained, manipulative bastard who twists things and was able to get millions to do his bidding thinking they were making their country great again. When I was a kid, during the days of his trial and afterward there were pretty graphic TV broadcasts about Germany in the 30’s and early 40’s. After those shows some neighbors did not come out of their house for several days. He had been in the Wehrmacht. He and his wife were average German citizens and didn’t realize that their country had been so hoodwinked as to keep them denying the rumors about the camps. They had been taught that the camps only were meant to provide needed factory labor, that “those people” were ruining their nation, that the undiserables weren’t true Germans and should be forced to leave Germany or made to work. They were told that Germany was being treated unfairly by the rest of the world economically, that other nations were spying on them and conspiring against them. They were told that only Germany could make themselves a great country once more. Wanting a better life they believed and supported the very people who oppressed them, who destroyed their country, who treated people different from them as criminals or animals simply because those people also wanted a better life for their own families. When they heard and saw the reality of it, their patriotism turned to complete shame and dispair over their unwitting behavior. Millions had been exterminated, millions died, and nations were completely ruined by lies and manipulation from men concerned with their own egos and hatred rather than actually wanting to make their country great again. The smug attitude of a few hateful, racist, greedy bastards tore the whole world apart and brought shame to a family who were trained to think they were doing the right things to help their nation.
Well, when everybody that doesn’t agree with the narrative is a nazi, then it becomes harder to distinguish who’s an actual nazi and who’s just a sane person who doesn’t agree with all the stupid crap. The issue is blithering idiots who are redefining words to mean things other than what they are purported to mean.
Remember that Charles Lindburgh and Joseph Kennedy were in love with Germany in the 1930’s, just like the US liberals loved the Soviet Union during its entire existance. Put the choice as Antifa instead of NAZIS and see if the entrance exam is still easy!
Despite having declared, at various times, “I am a socialist,” “We are socialists,” and similar avowals, on a personal level Hitler displayed little regard for the actual tenets of socialism, or, for that matter, socialists themselves. This excerpt from a speech Hitler gave in 1922 (quoted in William L. Shirer’s The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, published in 1960) is indicative:
Whoever is prepared to make the national cause his own to such an extent that he knows no higher ideal than the welfare of the nation; whoever has understood our great national anthem, “Deutschland ueber Alles,” to mean that nothing in the wide world surpasses in his eyes this Germany, people and land — that man is a Socialist.
[Hitler] was wholly ignorant of any formal understanding of the principles of economics. For him, as he stated to the industrialists, economics was of secondary importance, entirely subordinated to politics. His crude social-Darwinism dictated his approach to the economy, as it did his entire political “world-view.” Since struggle among nations would be decisive for future survival, Germany’s economy had to be subordinated to the preparation, then carrying out, of this struggle. This meant that liberal ideas of economic competition had to be replaced by the subjection of the economy to the dictates of the national interest. Similarly, any “socialist” ideas in the Nazi programme had to follow the same dictates. Hitler was never a socialist. But although he upheld private property, individual entrepreneurship, and economic competition, and disapproved of trade unions and workers’ interference in the freedom of owners and managers to run their concerns, the state, not the market, would determine the shape of economic development. Capitalism was, therefore, left in place. But in operation it was turned into an adjunct of the state.
The Republican right wing has embraced fascism, capitalism and Putin.
They war against ‘socialism’ (you know, fire departments, and such that depend on tax dollars and are used for the common good), as they give all the tax dollars to their rich friends in a splurge of welfare.
One reason the California fires were so bad was because the Republicans senators took a hundred million from the fire budget.
They borrowed money to give to their rich friends and ran the budget up to 22 trillion.
They are trying to tell you there is no money in the budget for socialism like Medicare and Social Security because they spent it all on themselves.
You know you can vote these liars and thieves out in November.
“Above all, artists must not be only in art galleries or museums—they must be present in all possible activities. The artist must be the sponsor of thought in whatever endeavor people take on, at every level.” – Federico Fellini (December 1965 piece in The Atlantic)
“An essential element of any art is risk. If you don’t take a risk then how are you going to make something really beautiful, that hasn’t been seen before? I always like to say that cinema without risk is like having no sex and expecting to have a baby. You have to take a risk.” – André Gide (Poétique)
Thank you Wiley Miller, keep pushing the envelope and helping us reflect on our world. Your art is gift to us all.
Nothing in America is easy anymore. If you can either be a boy or girl irrespective of your package, the term “Nazi” can be difficult as well. About the only help that can be supplied in this case is to remember the term “NazI” is short for “National Socialist German Workers’ Party.” The only American political party or faction sporting the term “socialist” are either in or allied with the Democrat Party.
The reason the question in the cartoon is a difficult one to answer is that it has become very evident that the definition of NAZI has changed. It used to be someone who belonged to or followed the National Socialist Workers Party… Now, it means, simply… “Anyone who doesn’t share your political beliefs.” OR… it’s something people will call someone else when they are losing an argument.
When Obama was president, he was often called a NAZI. Now, it’s Trump’s turn. Unfortunately, the word has lost its true meaning.
OK, to address all the bots, paid trolls, and stooges that think being stupid is smart:
Hitler called the National Socialist German Workers’ Party to throw off the rest of the world as to what his party was actually doing in Germany. The first thing he actually did was make unions illegal, much as the Republican Party has been trying to do in the USA for 3 decades. So, if Republicans don’t like being called Nazi’s, perhaps they should start by not doing things Nazi’s would have approved of. Maybe it’s time to start supporting unions and working people with more than rhetoric, blame, and boisterous talk.
Ah. One us Deplorable, Bitterly Clinging, Dregs of Society in overalls. (His fingernails might be dirty, too.) Yep. Thank you for ensuring that Mr. Trump will be re-elected.
Dang. Sure are a lot of right-wingers on here that keep spreading the lie that the Nazis were left-wing. Sorry guys. I know you don’t want Adolf as an extreme version of your belief system, but you’re going to have to deal with it, much like socialists have to deal with Stalin being an extreme version. Either you guys didn’t know that, and are spreading BS unintentionally, or, you guys DO know that, and are maliciously trying to show “your side” is clad in virginal-white clothing. Heh.
Is it me, or are the majority of the posts after mine last one likely Russian bots, effectively just repeating, "I know you are, but what am I? " Tell me, exactly how are the Democrats or people you identify as left in anyway like Nazi’s?
Not very clever you know. Hitler was a Fascist, which you need to look up as it cannot be simply defined left or right. The whole left, right thing was BS created to simplify a complex issue for less educated people. Unless you are an oligarch, you probably won’t like fascism very much.
For example, the misuse of the word communist country in regards to China. China is so far from communism it’s funny that they even call themselves communists. After all, a true communist country would have no rich people, let alone the largest population of billionaires of any one country. Countries and societies are a complex issue. I will continue to speak out for true freedom in America, as long as we still have it. The day the comments become lockstep out of fear, that is the day we can, and will agree that America is no longer the land of the free. The most important vote was 2000, which is why the supreme court dominated by conservative judges through Republican pressure illegally stopped the recount that would have given Al Gore the Presidency he earned. Oh, the difference that would have made on the world today. We will never really know, but chances are we wouldn’t be caught in a never ending war in the middle east. With Russia hacking our voting system, quite likely with Trump’s more direct aid this time, it is more important then ever to get everyone out to vote. Want to prove me wrong, everyone agree to vote Democrat, then if there are any Republican votes, we will know they hacked the machines. :PAgain, the Democrat politicians aren’t perfect, but the Republican politicians are perfectly horrible.
Didn’t read all of the comments, just a few. My only observation is that my bank will loan me 10 grand on a signature, but the pen is still chained down….
