At least Ken has something to be angry about. He’s got nothin’ downstairs, and neither does Barbie. Although “depressed” would probably be a more appropriate reaction than “angry”.
Hmmmm Angry White Ken must be friends with a dude from South Park called “Alabama Man”. Just go to YouTube and search for South Park Alabama Man and you will find the video. I have a feeling the post would be flagged if I linked the video as it is “South Park” after all, complete with political incorrectness, abusive language and domestic violence.
A grandfather walks into a toy store wanting to buy a Barbie for his granddaughter
He asks the woman in the store which one he should get
She takes him to the display and says’: " We have Fashion Barbie for $19.95. We have Camping Barbie for $19.95. We have driving Barbie for $19.95. We have Boating Barbie for $19.95. And we have Divorced Barbie for $65.95 "
Grandfather asks " Why is Divorced Barbie so much more expensive "
The woman replies " Divorced Barbie comes with Ken’s clothes, Ken’s car, Ken’s RV, Ken’s car and Ken’s boat "
Wiley is behind the times on this one. Bulimia is out, obesity (but only for women) is what gets you a job as a fashion model and on magazine covers today. Supposedly, that extra 50+ pounds is “healthy” now. See: Ashley Graham, Iskra Lawrence, Lizzie, etc.
The Toys that Made Us documentary had a good explanation: Barbies proportions are so that a girl can hold the legs, and Barbie looks normal with the clothes on. Threads behave differently at that size. Barbie was designed to be played with dressed, not naked.
Barbie is a fashion doll manufactured by the American toy company Mattel, Inc. and launched in March 1959. American businesswoman Ruth Handler is credited with the creation of the doll using a German doll called Bild Lilli [a doll intended for adults] as her inspiration. Barbie helped Mattel launch a new marketing strategy based on ‘add-ons’ and on television advertising, which has been copied widely by other toys. It is estimated that over a billion Barbie dolls have been sold worldwide in over 150 countries, with Mattel claiming that three Barbie dolls are sold every second [BBC News 2010]. According to the Economist [Dec 2002], "From her early days as a teenage fashion model, Barbie has appeared as an astronaut, surgeon, Olympic athlete, downhill skier, aerobics instructor, TV news reporter, vet, rock star, doctor, army officer, air force pilot, summit diplomat, rap musician, presidential candidate (party undefined), baseball player, scuba diver, lifeguard, fire-fighter, engineer, dentist, and many more….When Barbie first burst into the toy shops, just as the 1960s were breaking, the doll market consisted mostly of babies, designed for girls to cradle, rock and feed. By creating a doll with adult features, Mattel enabled girls to become anything they want. But I think this message was lost in the merchandizing.Barbie also caused girls to believe they had to look like Barbie and ‘act’ like her as well (Teen Talk Barbie, whose stock phrases included, “Will we ever have enough clothes?”, “I love shopping!”). To be successful (get a boyfriend? be popular?), they had to be blonde bombshells. Even after they tried to give her a less idealistic body shape and more diverse skin tones, she was still barbie with different hair and skin — expensive to change shapes and features very much (would require a whole lot of different molds) and then there were all the clothes and furniture, etc. that had to be interchangeable.

Actually,Ken never complains.He’s under Barbie’s hypnotic spell.
And I remember a 5-foot tall doll from the 1960’s—“You can wear Patty’s(the doll) clothes, and she can wear yours!”.
