Fewest campaign ads? Put on a soccer game. The only commercials are pre-game, halftime and post-game.

The thing of it is now that your smart TV monitors everything you watch and that it hears. Listening to a game on the radio does not do that and there are fewer ads

You would think, with all of the money being spent on political advertising, they would be able to produce more than one ad apiece. Yet we see, sometimes two or three times in a single commercial break, the same ad, over and over.

I am studying the campaign ads.

So far all the R ads are negative (except for one). The D’s are running about 2:1 positive ads.

It is quite obvious what the R’s are against, but except for promising to end inflation (by some undisclosed means) we have no idea what they plan to do. I guess they will take the Mitch McConnell approach, “Don’t ask, we’ll tell you after we get elected and you will like it. Trust me.”

The D’s are running pretty much on issues. Especially the right to choose what decisions a person can make about their own bodies.

Then I look at the sources. One R ad bases its accusations on a letter to the editor for some obscure newspaper, twitter posts (It must be true, I saw it on the internet), a quote from a right wing PAC, a quote from FOX News and it was paid for by a PAC. It accused the Democrat of accepting PAC money.

It does pay to read the fine print. Unfortunately most people don’t.

Sports are just another distraction from:

Why can’t we see Epstein’s client list? Why can’t we view Hunter Biden’s laptop? Why don’t we bus ALL illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities? Why is it okay for the elites to protect their estates with walls, but we can’t protect OUR homes by building a wall along the border? Why can’t we take care of our veterans and homeless, but we can spend billions of dollars on foreign aid?Why can Congressional Representatives engage in insider trading and make millions of dollars, but only pay a $200.00 fine IF they get caught? Why do we continue to re-elect the same corrupt people to positions of leadership power?

The mute button is now essential to view any televised sport. Over hyped, and over produced; and of course way too many comercials. I’m sure Americans are subjected to more daily propoganda than North Koreans.

Why do they want to call it a World Series when there is just one nominal Canadian team competing? The world couldn’t care less.

Sports are pretty boring but if you let a game run an hour before rewinding it to watch you can F.F. the commercials and dead spots, and struggle through it. Always on mute, of course. Otherwise, it’s a massive aggravating waste of time. (Which some would say it is anyway). To that all I can say is having money on it also makes it slightly less stupid. (You could just look up the score at the end).

I study the issues and candidates then vote as soon as I get my mail-in ballot. From then on I am deluged by ads in the mail or on TV but it’s just “water off a duck’s back” at that point.

it all depends how invested you are in the teams playing. I was in college in the mid 80’s. in Connecticut.

The 1985 world series was St louis vs Kansas city., the 3 kids from Missouri were all excited, no one else cared.

the next year was Boston vs the Mets. with 70% of the school from NY, CT and MA it was all over the place.

I remember waiting outside for a pizza and the noise came from the dorms and the driver had it on his radio.During the play offs I had to watch a film during the long game between Houston and NY. the professor was out in the hall watching on a small tv and when he came in to change reels he’d give us an update.

I have a solution for all this. Not being a sports fan… I don’t go to sports bars or restaurants. ;D

Know why there aren’t “politics bars”? Because they can’t get insurance. (Kidding. I hear in D.C. there are such places.) Know why there are lawyer bars? Because it’s the only place they’re safe when people are drinking.

I just noticed that my favorite news/talk radio station is not running any political ads this year. Normally that would be a good thing, but it’s an ominous note for the future. This is the time they make their money. Yet another nail in the coffin for commercial radio.

It’s what I do in a place with blaring TVs and annoying commenters: wait for ad breaks, use the mute-all of the omni-remote app on my phone (has an IR blaster still) and reduce the volume while muted to zero. Then keep the barman busy while the game comes up again.

No guest ever complained, as long as the game was still there to watch. Nobody want’s to hear the crappy comments. Just watch the show and have a good time with the buddies.

That’s what I do when I work out in a phys therapy place 5 days a week. During commercials. I mute it or try to find something on another channel, doesn’t work allthe time as most channels have their commercials on at the same time. Hate that.
