So many comics use the “closet monster” or “monster under the bed” trope as a common feature of childhood. But I don’t recall ever believing in something like that … Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, sure, but no monsters. Nor have any of the kids I’ve been closely associated with … so I’m curious, is it just a comics thing, or have any of you believed in such things when you were little?

A well known comedian would say that one must be completely covered as monsters can’t touch covers. They will just walk around the bed.

As long as there is no squirrels in the closet, Willie is not afraid. He’s the wrong color but he’s not afraid.

As a child I once thought a disembodied hand was on my bed. I was so scared I could not move or make a sound… so yes!

After reading John Keel’s “Strange Creatures from Time and Space” I did have bad thoughts about “monstrous faces” peering into houses that have been reported. No never happened. I sleep with the blinds up at night now.
