If you really must take your dog with you, take him early in the morning – not the heat of the day. And don’t leave him there for hours while you leisurely suck on some lattes.
Good morning, Crew!

My dog loved to go with me in the car. When I lived in LA, she would stay in the car in an underground garage or in a shaded parking lot for up to 2 hours. In Florida, where I live now, she goes NOWHERE with me if I’m going to be gone more than 5 minutes.

Dogs are not meant to travel in cars, unless they are in a travel carrier. They’re a safety hazard that makes texting look like nothing by comparison. Your dog doesn’t need to go with you unless you’re going to the vet.
An EMT that goes to my church told me how he had to extract a dog from his owner’s chest after she rear ended someone at 25 mph. The airbag killed the dog and the dog killed the owner when it got slammed into her chest at 200+mph.

The sad part is that only a few states actually have laws against leaving animals in cars. though sometimes cities/counties have their own laws against it.

I knew an old guy that carried two keys to his car. When he left his dog in the car, he left the engine running and the AC on. The doors were locked, and he had the second set of keys in his pocket.

Your hearts in the right place but you better go back and review the law re self defense. You could be viewed as the aggressor. Be careful…

Good afternoon Crew! All good statements, and all so true. And let’s not forget the morons who leave their little children in the car.

I left the carrier in the car after dropping the cat off for grooming. Had the window broken while I was shopping. The person wasn’t happy about paying for the damage.

Dog seat belt harnesses are readily available. They can be used with belts in the back seat or with a secured car seat that you clip the harness to. Not the skinny walking harness, but a special car harnesses with a wide, padded front panel. Snoozerpetproducts.com makes several nice and safe car seats for small dogs. No flying dogs.

I just acquired a dog from one of my neighbors who had to move and could not take him. He has separation anxiety so when I leave the house he cries so much, I just take him with me when I run errands. I park in a shady spot and leave the four windows down about a 3rd. I make sure not to stay gone long. When I return, he is usually sitting in the front seat and glad to see me. What is your opinion about that? (This is my first dog.)

You’re taking chances with the little guy’s life! What do you think would happen if something delayed your getting back?? Talk to a trainer IMMEDIATELY about training away the anxiety!!

Imagine you are injured while out and about and can’t back to the car. Your dog pays for it with his life. That’s not right. There are other options available to you for a dog with anxiety issues. Dogs mirror their owners, so maybe he’s picking up on the fact that you get anxious about him getting anxious? Therapy, medication, a trainer… lots of better options than leaving him in a car to potentially die of heat stroke.

True Allan, and *carol guppy and sheila, give, SAMFRAN60 a break! This is his first dog he said, I have had dogs and cats ALL MY LIFE. He’s learning. He didn’t have to take the dog at all, you know? I give him CUDOS for being so kind! Dogs have a way of knowing who cares for them, and I think HE WILL DO FINE with that dog!

If Nate … um … “requested” … a fee for this service, he’d be rich. Wonderful.
Good Evening, Crew. Good to be back, and will catch up on recent comics this weekend.
