Tell her there Charlie Brown! As long as your father is a great dad to you then that’s all that matters. Happy Father’s day everybody.

Lots of unfortunate implications here if you decide to read into things.

I don’t choose to read into things; that would spoil Schulz’s point.

    Lovely message on fatherhood.

“My dad spends all his spare time improving his golf game instead of playing with his daughter”—right Violet?

Wonder if Chuck’s dad can live down the shame of being a barber with a bald headed kid. Still, great strip & nice sentiment. Happy Father’s Day to great dads everywhere!

My Dad always called me “his boy” when he talked about me. Only the tone changed based on any activity I was doing. I’m beginning to wonder now if he ever knew my name. :-D

It didn’t happen all the time for sure, but, every so often, Charlie Brown came out a winner. This is one of them.

People tend to get Violet and Lucy confused because they both have black hair and similar personalities, but only Violet wore her hair in a bun. Violet may also be lesser known to comics fans than Lucy, because like many of the early Peanuts characters she was phased out long before the strip ended in order to make room for newer characters like Peppermint Pattie and Marcy.

Also, people tended to confuse Violet with Lucy…another reason she was probably phased out.

How many people out there remember Shermy, or the only person of color to grace the strip…Franklin? There was also Patty (prior to “Peppermint” Patty) and of course Violet. And Schroeder was very seldom in Sparky’s later strips. Guess they must have moved out of the neighborhood. And what was the name of the little girl that always bragged about her naturally curly hair????

Violet, and her pal Patty (with the naturally curly hair) were Lucy’s hangers-on. Think of Cordelia in the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Violet and Patty are her two cheerleader buddies who are mean to people that Cordelia is mean to.

SaskSledDog——Frieda was the girl with the naturally curley hair….Patty was a blond version of Violet – kind of the Betty and Veronica equivalents in Peanuts. Google is a wonderful thing!

One of the best of all the peanuts strips!

I don’t mind Pep. Patty, but I have to confess that I found Sally annoying sometimes.

Violet and Patty (and Shermy, for that matter) were drawn a little taller, and were therefore probably a little older than Charlie Brown. Lucy was a little younger – and shorter – than CB. Linus was younger and still shorter than her. Schroeder started as a baby but was soon the same height and apparent age as CB. Schulz’ drawing seems very simple, but these details are apparent if you look for them.

actually, is CB actually bald? He’s never called “the bald-headed kid” only “the round-headed kid”. Seems that he has a not-uncommon 50’s era buzz or crew cut. with just a little left on the front. Fast and easy to do, even faster and easier to maintain.

And yes – Violet. Less bellicose personality than Lucy.

BTW – in spite of CB’s baseball team’s supposed inability to ever win a game, they DO appear in “the championship” in a couple strips (where they lose, of course). Still, unless there were only two teams, or standards were amazingly low, they must have had a decent season or two.

    good strip today, for sure.

does anyone know the date of the comic strip where Snoopy and CB were playing checkers and Snoopy couldn’t remember if he was Black or Red? Any idea who I could contact? I am a Teacher and would like to use this in a lesson before the school year ends. Thank you.

I’m trying, but I can’t see any unfortunate implications in the strip. …And now I’ve stopped trying.Charles Schulz said he envisioned Charlie Brown as a very light blond kid with very fine hair. He was never colored that way, though. I don’t think he did his own coloring, but I’m not sure about that.

Charlie Brown emphasized what most counts. His dad helps to boost his self esteem when so many of the other kids are saying and doing things to tear it down. He’s a class act and is a model to how we are to do unto others as we would like for them to do unto us. Way to go, Charlie Brown. Must of really driven a deep plunge into Violet’s conscience.
