Can you imagine Snoopy referring to the Peanuts kids by name in his thought bubbles? I can’t quite explain why, but it would appear weird; Schulz deliberately didn’t have Snoopy do that so as to maintain a barrier between him and the human characters.
I don’t think Snoopy will lower himself to actually communicate with mere humans. Snoopy’s line that “Charlie” is too complicated compared to “round headed kid” is a dodge to avoid the real response of his own superiority and prejudice. Everything about Snoopy’s demeanor bespeaks of a superior feeling amonst others.
In early years (when the strip was still finding its footing), Snoopy did know Charlie Brown’s and everyone else’s name, but when Sally became a little girl, he forgot all the kids’ names.

You are giving Snoopy guilty feelings Linus.

If Snoopy calls Charlie Brown “the round-headed kid”, what does he call Linus? “The other round-headed kid”?

That name wasn’t complicated for the Coasters.

I’m pretty sure it starts with an ‘H’. That’s it, Hey You!

That’s a sad excuse, Snoopy!

To be fair, his first and last name does equal 3 whole syllables; a bit much for a dullard like Snoopy.

Linus acts angry but (or because?) he forgets Charlie Brown’s name too: https://www.gocomics.com/peanuts/1966/07/01

Children and pets, dogs especially, have a special talent about communication.

A white kid named “Brown”? Yep, that’s “complicated”.

Snoopy not appreciating his good life reminded me of one of my favorite Peanuts cartoons:

Dogs have trouble with complicated names. That’s why we are “mom” and “dad.”

Snoopy has heard there are free milkshakes in the area.

This is why he yells “Curse you Red Baron !”, not, “Curse you Von Richthofen.”

Snoopy, the round headed kid deserves to be seen in a better perspective, for all that he does for you.

Beagles are an interesting breed. They’re pretty smart about some things, but utterly daft about other things.

don’t you hate people who need to be called by their full name all the time

Snoopy can remember “that round-headed kid” but “Charlie Brown” is too complicated?
