At least Linus’ teacher can speak English and communicate. Peppermint Patty’s teacher can only bellow like a trumpet horn! "What was that mark you said, teach? The key of high C. or the key of F (lunk out)
Today’s U.S. Public schools are a complete & utter disaster … Would that they were anything close to what they were back in the day when this comic was fresh & new.
With my bowling skills, just rolling the ball down the center, and not in the gutter, is a real accomplishment. But, yes, Charlie, what Linus’ teacher says is quite true. When dealing with a large class, we teach with the shotgun approach. We hope to touch base with a good percentage of the students. When I preach, I know that maybe a fifth will be touched spiritually, a third will be interested, maybe even half will be at least amused at times, but the other half will probably not be with me till the end of the sermon. And I suspect my fractions are optimistic appraisals. If Linus had a small class, then the teacher might be able to provide for Charlie’s expectations and give one-on-one attention, but those classes are somewhat rare.
The most satisfying thing for teachers and other mentors is when someone walks up to them years later and says, “Thank you.” It’s not a job for you if you are into instant gratification.

Those who can’t teach, bowl instead.

Does the teacher know anything about making spares?

When I was teaching, I tried never to “strike” a student. ;-)

would Patty be considered a "gutter ball’? Hopefully teaching is up her alley!

Most of my teachers thought success was a seven-ten split.

“She must be a terrible bowler” — Why? Does she drop the ball as a teacher?

“Touch most of the students,” huh? I think I need to have a talk with that teacher.

Must be a terrible teacher as well.

The teacher that Charlie Brown was speaking of must’ve thought of a lot of “gutter balls” while she said it.

Charlie Brown just made the most passive aggressive comment I’ve ever heard.

I used to be a Saturday bowling league starting in 1990 but it ceased in March 2020 when the COVID pandemic was launched.

Sounds like most teachers I had. They were terrible bowlers too.

Not such a great metaphor, Linus. I don’t want to know about your English lessons.
