Libby: Excuse me, Mr. Pastis? ...My name's Libby. I live across the street. For my second grade class project I have to interview a cartoonist. Pastis: Sure, Libby. Happy to help. Libby: Great. Do you know a cartoonist? Rat: I like your style, Libby. Libby: You poor little stick figure. Pastis: Get off my lawn now, Libby.

Libby is rude. Of course he knows some cartoonists.

Stop talking to Rat, Libby. He’s a wanna be cartoonist who constantly tries to belittle a real cartoonist. Though be careful around Pastis, he may start punning and their not always good puns.

For such a superficially sweet little redheaded girl, Libby has managed several sharp digs at Cartoon-Boy! First, asking him if he knows any cartoonists; doesn’t she know what he does when he’s away from Staci? (Wait; let me think about re-phrasing that.) Second, by describing his alter ego and co-leading character as a stick-figure; Cartoon-Boy has always been rather touchy about his limited artistic skills…. In all, Cartoon-Boy has a right to be peeved at his neighbor, Libby, though I hope she doesn’t meet the fate of a neighbor Bob, Mks. 1 and higher….

Well, you have to admit, most of the characters here look like the ones on the insides of match book coves, the one that are ads for art schools that say, “Draw this rat,” or “Draw this pig.”
That’s not to suggest that Pastis would ever fall for such a ploy. It’s pretty well apparent that HE never went to art school. (And I suspect he’s never actual SEEN a crocodile.)
WAIT A MINUTE?!!! ISN’T THAT LITTLE GIRL REALLY JUST PIG IN AN ORANGE WIG?!! RAAAAAAATTTT!

All the times I’ve come here and I never noticed that I could leave a comment. Now I have. Thanks for that article about Bill Watterson contributing to the strip.
