I am so old I can remember when bowl haircuts were common for 7 yr. old kids. I had one when I was that age. Jr. Otto Octavius I was, without the metallic arms.

I can remember when there actually was penny candy!

When I first remember TV, we had 3 channels. Our antenna didn’t get PBS. Then we moved, and got PBS. So we had 4. Then as a teenager a rich guy started his own TV station, so we had 5. It showed stuff like Ultraman and Speed Racer. Many years later FOX bought it.

I remember when they had those pageants on one of the three channels.

The when I got older I got a combination Radio(AM)/Phonograph/Wire Recorder. It was bigger than my parents TV set.

Gee whiz, Stephen.. copying from yesterday’s “Arlo and Janis”? At least have the decency to let a week or two pass!

Remember when you had to wait for the TV to warm up before you got a picture? Taking tubes down to the tube tester at the hardware store to see which one was bad and needed replacing? Test patterns?

I remember actually having to get off the couch to walk across the room to the Philco Console Television to change channels BY HAND to one of the 3 that were available. Then my dad got a UHF box to set on top of the television so we could get 2 more channels.

I sense a trend going through these comments.

It means PBS is going to lose most of its readership in a few years.

Pig, it was terrible how those women were made, against their will, to participate in such barbarism.

So everyone is talking about TVs but not the fact that this strip really isn’t funny anymore. And I have read ALL of them to date.

We had one channel which covered NBC, CBS, ABC, and the Dumont Television Network.

Pfft. I’M so old that I remember when there were only four channels, I had to get up and walk across the room to change the channel, and if I wanted to re-watch a favorite movie that I’d seen in the theater, I had to wait until the edited version showed up on TV about three years later!

What’s more, I’m so old that I can remember when, if someone called and I couldn’t get to the phone in time to answer, I had to call them or wait until they called me back to find out what they wanted.

I remember when the Dead Sea was just sick.

I’m so old, I remember when the radio station had more music than I had in my house.

I remember having only 4 TV channels – ABC, NBC, CBS and PBS (which nobody watched). We had to walk to the TV to turn it on or off and had to turn a dial on the set to select a channel. It also had verticle roll and horizontal sync knobs and a fine-tuning dial to get the best reception.

I remember when we had to watch TV by candlelight!

I remember when I actually WATCHED Beauty Pageants ONLY for the swimsuit competition.

I’m so old that I remember … um, what were we talking about?

I’M OLD

When my family first got a t.v. in 1969, I’m pretty sure there were only two channels at the time. A third one appeared a year or two later.

Come on, Stephan, you like it, and you know it.

I’m so old that when I was little, the Sun was only about half as big as it is now, and there wasn’t any Moon at all.

And back in those early TV days, there were only 2 or3 commercials every half hour, not 10 every 7 minutes or so. And “pay TV’s” selling point was NO COMMERCIALS!!

What I get from this is that we’re all just a bunch of old farts reading this strip.

I’m so old I remember when people used to vote using their brains instead of other anatomical parts. Just a little political comment.

It’s any year in human history you choose. Human males are visually stimulated for sex. So very visually stimulated that even cartoons can arouse them (see: Brandy, in Liberty Meadows). women have always been judged by their looks, and routinely display for male attention. Kinda the opposite of pea fowl.

No one is forcing the contestants to enter the contests, and in actuality I think women are judging the contestants more than men. But not to worry with the dropping of the swimsuit competition it won’t be long before american pageants die off. Now the Miss Universe pageant that will continue I think, at least in latin america.

Seven‽ Hell, I’m lucky if I can pick up one!

S. Jersey / Philly Suburb. 4 VHF stations (ABC/NBC/CBS/PBS) and 3 UHF stations (17, 29, & 48). 48 started playing Star-Trek reruns and quickly became one of the strongest UHF signals in the area.

Central California growing up, we had ABC, CBS, and NBC each from San Francisco and Sacramento, plus an independent/educational. So does that count as 4 or 7? It was a big deal in the late 1960’s when we got a new local UHF independent. However living in rural California and then very rural Nevada in the 1980’s and 1990’s, we got one and one only, and sometimes not even that. Cable or satellite was either unavailable or way too expensive.

I remember having to go through all sorts of contortions to get better TV reception.

Cell phones brought back so many memories.

It was a lot harder to be properly misinformed back then…

I remember when there were only two genders…

I lived in Hollister, Missouri in the early 1970’s. We got 3 TV stations out of Springfield. 3, 10, and 27. :)

BBC Cymru Wales, BBC2 and HTV Cymru Wales. That was it until I was 9, not to mention hours of Testcard F on two of them! :)

Ah, the Good Old Days….

I remember when there was only 1 tv channel in Chattanooga, TN.

Five in New Orleans: 4 (CBS), 6 (NBC), 8 (ABC), 12 (PBS) and 26 (WGNO, independent).
