Thank you, Goat. Your photos of D-Day are also a reminder that Americans, along with our Allies, fought and died to conquer the Nazis. It is frightening to see that many of our fellow citizens today fail or refuse to understand that.
There was no such thing as a vote before D day. It’s also called the voting war. Mostly because it was against an oppressive government that didn’t get in power by popular vote… What’s wrong with you, Pastis???
It’s healthy to remember that George Washington loathed politicians. He thought they were a bane on every civilized nation in the world. So don’t forget to go out and vote today!
I know this will draw the bile of many, but the idea that the US armed forces ever fought for my right to vote is one of those tenets of our American public religion. WWI and WWII were fights against German desire to dominate Europe and Japan’s desire to dominate the Pacific. Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq were all fights for geopolitical reasons. As far as I have learned in my life, we have never had to face an aggressor on our shores who wanted to overthrow our form of government.
A bit of a myth the government would like you to remember.. Those that died in the middle East over the last ~20 years..Vietnam.. Korea did it “just” to support the whim of a fool.
If.. the forces were truly concerned about protecting your right to vote.. they would be declaring war on the Republicans that are doing everything they can to restrict the vote.
All citizens should do their conscientious duty, but estimates I have heard about today’s enthusiastic contests suggest a turnout of only 50-55%, better than many midterms but still lower than one might hope.
Dad did three combat landings in the Pacific in the Army, he was a Forward Artillery Observer. So I haven’t missed many and most of those because I had just moved to a new town/state.

Vote for the one who will work for the PEOPLE not the Party.
We have had too many years of Party politics and no cooperation. We, the PEOPLE, have all been hurt by bully politics.

It should also be remembered that, for our right to vote, some died not just at Normandy, but also in Mississippi.

Ok, republicans, you’ve gotten your cheap, outdated shots in. Several times.
You don’t have to keep posting it as if you just thought of it.

Scott, a lot of people who were never eligible to vote in US elections also fought and died on Normandy – the US troops weren’t the only ones there.

D-Day was not about our right to vote. What nonsense! It was about helping our allies and honoring our agreements with France.
