In An Orc on the Wild Side, Tom Holt pointed out that to banjax a compass, you just have to put a big chunk of metal next to it. Iron for an ordinary compass, gold for a moral compass.

Yeah, go for it – if they didn’t want you to do it, they would lock it down better.

Aw. Isn’t that nice? And I thought that Rat didn’t have a Moral Compass. I am wondering though, if he might possibly have a two-sided compass with only “Don’t Do It” on the other side – just in case he might “need” an alternative answer (to tell him not to do the right thing).

TRUE STORY. Our neighbor has named his WiFi network “Protect the 2nd Amendment.”

My sister-in-law was shocked to learn I didn’t have a password on my Wi-Fi. I told that 2 friends – a coder and a systems administrator – had assured me that this posed no risk, that no one could get into my computer that way.

“But – they’re using it without paying!”

    “So?”

That one stumped her; she just couldn’t conceive of being willing to share.

My baby sister, on the other hand, had so many teen hooligans piggybacking on hers that she had no bandwidth left; she changed her password – and changed the name of the network to “Get your own damn Wi-Fi!”

That Pig of all characters was able to guess the password points to a ridiculously simple password. The neighbor obviously asked for it.
