Somewhere in the last millennium, a friend told a joke (I think he made it up)
There was a loyal servant of the King who overheard a Count discussing a plot to overthrow the king. He ran to His Majesty and told him.
The King summoned the count and demanded all the details. The Count refused.
The King tried various bribes & torture but the Count held fast. Finally, in an attempt to intimidate the other plotters, the King called for the executioner. The king asked the count one more time but the count stayed mum. But, just as the ax was swinging toward his neck he said “No! I’ll talk!!”
However, it was too late. The ax hit it’s mark, and eventually the plot to kill the King was carried out.
Moral of the story: Don’t hatchet your counts before they chicken.
This may be the first time for me that I got through Pastis’ set up without knowing a pun was coming. Congratulations, Pastis, I didn’t see this one coming!
Why do I ever even glance at the Sunday strips? I mean, I get it, the joke is that the ‘Pastis’ character in the strip is an idiot who draws idiotic pun (or pun-like) gags for his strip. But one strip twenty years ago would have been enough. The joke does not get funnier by being repeated every week.
I could tell a pun was coming from the first panel, so it’s always hard for me to not glance ahead and spoil the outcome. Glad I didn’t, the payoff was worth it.

Kinda poor taste for the brunette woman to be dressed exactly like the bride. What a jerk.

With the humor, there is wisdom.
Don’t count them as married until they’ve both said, “I do.”
Don’t count the wedding complete until the rings are on the fingers.
