Calvin once said he’d be remembered as the legendary type. He was right. Calvin and Hobbes “died,” but they are forever remembered and will continue to be. I have a good feeling Pearls will also be remembered under a legendary level as well.

Why do Pig and I have the same questions? That is also one of my biggest worries as well. But you know, just enjoy life while you can.

Ironically, Calvin & Hobbes is just in front of Pearls in my GoComics feed. I keep them, along with Peanuts for the end of the page, saving the best for last.

All the best artists have the guts to end it. Find me any media that never had a decline/dip in quality, and I’ll find you some media that ended “prematurely.”

Some classic strips live long after their creators died or moved on and the strip itself stopped. We “Pogo” fans continue to love the strip and treasure our copies of the book to this day. And Walk Kelly died back in the 1970s.

Ironically Calvin and Hobbes reruns are still more popular than Pearls Before Swine.

Calvin & Hobbes not only exists, it is the comic I read just before Pearls every day. The humor, the issues and Waterson’s imagination are timeless. Many years ago, when I subscribed to a newspaper, Bloom County appeared daily. After trying for about a week, I decided I no longer needed to even look at it. Never regretted that choice.

Bloom County brought back Calvin and Hobbes for a story arc.

I’m confused. Hasn’t Calvin & Hobbs “come back in various forms”?

Calvin and Hobbes live forever in reruns. Berkley’s last iteration of Bloom County ended during the Plague Years. Although the classics are replayed for those who missed them.

Or, like Dilbert, the cancel culture sends you to purgatory.

Or, your creator succumbs to merchandising you and you live forever on spiral notebook covers, and in bins of marked-down action figures.

Calvin & Hobbs…. Now that’s one of the bestest cartoons ever.
