I work in retail. And sometimes I have to act as a backup cashier when it gets real busy up front. Normally, I work in the garden center or in the off season for garden center, I work in “seasonal”, which means back-to-school, Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter. But one day when I was cashiering, a customer really surprised me. The woman behind her in line was with her baby and she was buying diapers and other baby needs. After paying for her purchases and getting money back in change, this woman took $20 cash and handed it to the woman with the baby. She told her the money was for the baby. Then she took off so fast, the woman with the baby barely had a chance to thank her. The woman with the baby and I just looked at each other, stunned by what had just happened. We were both quite overwhelmed. I’m glad I was cashiering at that time and that I got to see this act of kindness. Things like that just don’t happen very often.
