I’m always finding “junk I wasn’t looking for”. I can have 2 or 3 things on my shopping list and end up buying 10 things – and sometimes the things on my list are not in my cart.
when they ask me that I like to pick up something in my cart and say no I couldn’t find this and I looked eveywhere if they are under 30 generally don’t know what to say
Probably not alone on this but when they mark on my $20 bill to see if it is counterfeit (which happens almost every time — I must look like a crook) I usually say…
“It should be good I just printed it this morning.”
I hate when they say that because if I couldn’t find it I’ve abandoned the effort and I’m ready to leave. If I really wanted it I would have grabbed an employee.
I confess to being a bit anal when it comes to grocery shopping. I make a list ( usually the day before ), set a budget of what I am going to spend – and pretty much adhere to both….unless Mrs. Compulsive Buyer accompanies me !
I have learned to adjust my budget and factor in her spur of the moment/must have purchases, so that there’s no fights and we’re usually right on, or slightly below, budget.
I learned to be a frugal shopper from my mother who’d sent me to the grocery store with a list and $30 ( a week’s groceries, in those days ) and tell me I could keep the change. Ha ! If I was really on the ball, I might net 35 cents change !!
.
When I make my list, I visualize the aisles and mentally go up and down each one, writing down the items I am going to buy. When I’m in the store, I check off each purchase, as I put it in my cart.
If I’m shopping by myself, I can usually buy a month’s worth of groceries and get out of the store in less than an hour.

When a cashier asks me if I found everything I needed, I say “No, still looking for that stack of $100 bills.”

I usually just answer the question with “Yes…and then some!”

My husband and I go out to breakfast before shopping so we aren’t tempted to pick up a lot of goodies. Boring, huh??

A little advice for those who overshop:
1) Think about your budget.
2) Make a shopping list and stick to it!
