I have strange-shaped feet. So much of the time, I wear carpet slipper equivalents (or just socks). Waddling, not so much, but “flop slip-flop slip-flop” is common.

I discovered years ago that Easy Balance made men’s shoes (this is the company that had women in pumps playing basketball to the jingle “looks like a pump, feels like a sneaker”). It was always hard to find their men’s shoes, and since the pandemic all the places that used to carry them have gone out of business.

When my Dad passed I helped my Mom for several years. The 1930s depression had a huge impact on her spending behavior. For example she would buy very cheap shoes that really hurt her. When I took her shopping I got her proper shoes, clothes, etc but I lied about the cost. She alway thought everything was a bargain. She really had enough money to last two lifetimes. Mom and Dad’s will skipped our generation. I got to dole out important amounts of money to their eight grandkids. I felt like Santa Claus.

In an earlier time, carefully assessing a customer’s appearance before asking questions gave leads to his/her most likely activities and preferences. Thus one sale could lead to repeats. Nowadays one rarely sees the same salesperson twice in a store. About the only repeat left for guys is finding a barber that cuts hair the way one likes.

Wear slippers or loafers in the house. Less foot problems and injuries that way. And buy decent shoes, not crap. You only get one pair of feet and as you get older you have to take care of them. It hurts a lot of you dont.

Oh, and if you have to “break in” a pair of shoes, they’re too small or narrow. Buy them a bit bigger than you think. Your feet will appreciate it.

Essentially my mantra. I gripe at paying over $15 for what are basically cheap, imported sneakers.

I don’t like shoes, either. But, I have to wear them in the house because of our floors are either tile or hardwood. Yes, we have area rugs but that’s not enough. I started having pain about 3 yrs ago and the podiatrist took xrays. I have some arthritis in both feet and he suggested orthotic inserts. They made a world of difference for me! I use them in my sneakers and the slip-ons I wear in the house. I don’t even own any ‘real’ shoes any more. By that I mean heels, pumps or anything else. I sure do have a lot of really cute sneakers, though. They all have cat designs on them. I think they’re all Skechers. I think it was two years ago that they put out a pair to celebrate Felix the Cats’ 50th birthday. I get a lot of comments on those.

It’s refreshing to see a salesman who really knows his customer base. =^___________^=

They’ll also work quite well for walking the dog and going for walks with his wife!

At my age, slip on shoes for going out, sandals or slippers for when at home.

    Sketcher’s makes some nice ones.

UnderArmour makes great sandals as well.
