I once was in a store that sold recliners and decided to test one of them. But I couldn’t get the footrest down and the back up. I was trapped! And were there any salespeople around to assist me? Hah! So, I had to struggle out, and it’s not as easy to do as depicted above.
She makes a good point in the last panel. By the same token, if you have outdoor pets, make sure you look under your car before backing out of your driveway.
This actually happened with my mom and our dachshund. I think we might have gone looking around the neighborhood. Finally she heard the whining coming from the chair.
No such thing as an “outdoor pet”. Dog and cats should NEVER be left outdoors chained up 24/7. Those are NOT pets, they have no life, no love, no warmth. If you are going to keep a “pet” outdoors 24/7… DON’T GET ONE. Pets are family, treat them as such.
I don’t usually comment on Pickles here as I read it our local paper, not online. But with this strip I HAD to come here and comment.
When we lived in an apartment I had a recliner chair that reclined with a handle. It was big, heavy and modern (vinyl) in design. I had no trouble getting it to recline with the handle.
When we bought and moved to our house (about 30 years ago) husband had developed his interest in colonial American and decorated the living room in what is called “Colonial Revival” – basically looks mostly colonial, but not really or exactly. My big comfy recliner chair – which I had slept when several times I had a pain in my shoulder was out. As a substitute he found a colonial-looking recliner (with seat in my favorite color – blue – instead.
Problem is that I cannot push this chair open while seated in it as my legs don’t reach the ground when I am seated on it – I have to stand up facing the chair and push it just a bit open, then switch and stand with a leg on either side of the rising front section, sit down and then push against the back of the seat to raise the leg section.
So I feel greatly for Mrs. Pickles. (Luckily no pets to deal with.)
That’s exactly where my childhood dog used to sleep. When he wanted to nap, he would scratch at the chair and someone would raise the footrest and he would crawl into the space underneath.

I find it almost impossible to get out of the chair with the footrest up.

I have heard that some pets have been seriously injured by recliners! Please everyone, be careful because pets love to sneak inside them!

Opal, if you can’t operate the chair then sit somewhere else.

I have a few dogs, all similar sizes. If my pup gets under the chair I can’t put it down. My 10 month old puppy is about 75-80 lbs/34 – 36 Kg.

I bought a new recliner last year and I have to push the footrest down with your feet and not a lever. It is a tough thing to do.

If you don’t put it down, it is really hard to get back in.

I didn’t know there were still recliners without the handle on the side to “un-recline” them.

Roscoe is not the only little rascal to do that.
