This cartoon kind of reminds me of a routine ventriloquist and puppeteer Paul Winchell had on one of his TV shows. [From Wikipedia]:
“… He created ‘Mr. Goody-good,’ a surreal character, by painting eyes and a nose on his chin, covering his face with a small costume, then having the camera image inverted. The resulting pinheaded character seemed to have an immensely wide mouth and a highly mobile head. Winchell created this illusion by moving his chin back and forth.”
I loved doing this with my father, him lying on his back as I looked at his face upside-down. We both had a good time at it.
Although “gluing” is the accepted spelling versus “glueing” which has also been used, it shouldn’t be. It is just another example of “inconsistent rules” for English spelling. The livery man is an expert in shoeing horses, not shoing them…….horseshoeing, snowshoeing ……..etc In textiles it is hueing not huing, although for blueing vs bluing (both are used) . OK , I’m being pedantic, but these things bother me…although, to be honest, I am easily bothered and often bored. Not to be boring or is it boreing? …….Oh No! I think we have another spelling inconsistency.

When a friend at a party passed out we’d take a marking pen and draw on their face. The good old days.

And of course, Earl will be oblivious to all this until someone brings it to his attention…

If you’re going to do something (like this),

That work of art is incomplete! You need to put one of those Grouch Marx eyeglass disguises on his pate to finish the masterpiece!

Did Opal get her inspiration from Lucy’s jack-o-lantern planning in “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”?
