Used to work in a nursing home. The nurses always said, “If you don’t want to end up in a place like this, keep fit. Especially your legs. Once you can’t move around, chances are you’ll be stuck here.
I don’t work out to necessarily live longer; I work out so I can live more freely.
What Opal is doing is defeating the purpose and maybe the weights are way too heavy. But, since this is just a cartoon, I can see the joke of not using these properly.
A few years ago I started lifting weights and doing therapy for my shoulder. When I realized that the weightlifting was making my shoulder worse I stopped. Other complications are making it difficult for me to resume but my arms still have nice definition.
For people who have to sit on the job for eight hours or more a day, the best exercise is simply to stand up, and to do so at least once every fifteen minutes. If you have a standing desk, great.
Opal isn’t fooling me. She lifts the vacuum on a very regular basis. Did you ever weigh a full laundry basket? She looks like she just is not in her own court.

She lifts weights almost every day…almost on Monday, almost on Tuesday, almost on Wednesday…..

Who was it who mentioned that the only exercise they got was attending the funerals of their more active friends… and pushing away from the table?

I lift 100 kg (220 lbs) every time I get up. That’s enough exercise for me.

Unless Earl did it for her, she must have lifted them up to be able to rest the on the arms of the chair.

I have an evangelical friend who offers to lift me up in prayer. I think I weigh too much, it hasn’t happened yet.

Ironically, I’m waiting to lift too.
