I doubt very many eateries are still there from when I last took a vacation. I do remember some places my Wife and I ate at on a road trip. One place I recall was during a vacation was a German/American place we went to after the BBQ place we had passed earlier was packed out the door.
At the time we visited, there were many all-you-can-eat establishments in Myrtle Beach. Many served seafood.
I prefer to eat reasonable portions at meals, at most under 1200 calories for dinner. I was amazed how gluttonous people were when allowed to eat as much as they wanted. Even though they paid like $40 dollars at the door, they often pigged out atrociously, like … well, pigs. We passed one fellow who had a foot-high pile of king crab leg shells, and was eating through another, fresh stack. I never saw so many plates stacked so high.
As it was, I got bad heartburn from all the fried food I uncharacteristically overate. After that we ate at normal restaurants, or bought groceries to make simple meals in our motel rooms.
at my dad’s place of work, whenever someone went on vacation, he would ask how their trip was, and invariably they would talk about the food. He’d then ask about the scenery or activities they did, but they’d be like ‘it was okay, but the food , blah blah blah’…. which might explain why so many look like today’s pluggers pictured here… lol!
Years ago, I would go with a group of guys, many of whom were at least as heavy as our Pluggers, to an “All you can eat” crab leg restaurant. They would joke with the server that they had better be wearing track shoes to keep the group supplied. For me, one of their single entrees was all I could eat.

Sounds like the food on the cruise we took—they even had a 24-hour pizza parlor ! ! !

All-you-can-eat places have been a waste of money for the last 20 years; although if I could find an Indian buffet I hit it.

Must be an Englishman. Took me a long time to figure out that “pudding” ment dessert. White Knight in Alice.

My S.O. and I drove to Maine to eat lobster until we got tired of it. Turns out there is a number, it was more than we thought.

And then we ate in a charming McDonald’s next to the Tibetan monastery.

There is a reason that the Cheesecake Factory doesn’t have a desserts buffet.
