We do need to move off world to spread our species about the galaxy in order to preserve it. Though it would be nice if we were less war like and less foam-at-the-mouth Fundamentalists of several types.
The nearest star to Sol is ~4.5 light years away; a light year is ~6 trillion miles; at a walking spread of 4 m/h, it’ll only take them ~770 million years to get there…
