Your a guest Carmen and yet you espouse rude manners? Who raised you?

    Okay, see—-here’s the rub.

We are constantly hearing shrieking and caterwauling from conservatives, Republicans and right-wingers who have managed to convince themselves that they are being unfairly “oppressed,” “victimized,” and “persecuted” by the “violent left,” who are being just SO unfair in calling them racist, cruel, authoritarian and even fascistic. In their mythology of eternal victimhood, this is supposed to be proof of how “intolerant” and “bigoted” liberals and progressives are, seemingly because they are “unable to tolerate other points of view that don’t fit their own.”

Yeah…..see….here’s what never seems to remotely cross their minds. Does it EVER, even for a SECOND, occur to any of these perpetually aggrieved victimhood-adddicts that maybe, just maybe, we say these things about them in response to their actual BEHAVIOR?

Does it ever occur to them that we call out their statements as racist because they are, in fact, trafficking in rhetoric that actually IS racially inflammatory? That they are advocating and voting for policies that empirically, materially ARE racially targeted? That they are motivating their voting base with tropes and cliches that ARE racially charged? That their policies materially DO disenfranchise nonwhites? Does it ever occur to any of these people that there is a REASON they get called racist?

And have they ever, over the past thirty years of coarsening, increasingly toxic political discourse, stepped back and listened to their own words when they talk about other people? Do they really not hear themselves when they say the most filthy, dehumanizing, abjectly cruel things about entire groups of people? Do they really not understand that constantly working to legally disenfranchise racial, sexual and religious minorities and constantly call into question their civil liberties, their autonomy, their human dignity, their very AMERICANness——is legitimately a cruel, horrible way to behave toward other human beings?

Actually, it is the point. You’re a guest in someone’s house, not on commenting on a comic strip on the internet. Snarking at your dinner hosts makes you a total jerk.

Conservatives now call good manners “political correctness” and claim it’s a bad thing. And weirdly enough, they think they’re the keepers of old-fashioned values at the same time.

Yeah. I gotta agree with most of the other commentators here. Carmen is very much in the wrong. Hopefully this is a lead in to a longer story line about lack of civility on both sides. But even if it is, I’m sure it’s a lesson that will fall on deaf ears.

JLG – have you never been married, or in a long term relationship? Do you not therefore know first hand how two people can live the same reality, experience the same events and facts, yet have totally different perceptions and opinions about that reality? Can you not see how their disagreements simply become increasingly heated and bitter if each accuses the other of being blind, deaf, and ignorant; if they both drop to increasingly defamatory labeling? If the argument continues its slide, it may becomes violent, with each side absolutely sure they are justified when blows are struck. On a large scale, if a war is fought, you may be assured only that the winners will write the history of that war, and therefore the “good guys” [them] will be cited as having “won”.

Well, certainly, taking three year olds away from their parents and putting them in cages, is nothing to get snarky about.

And neither is Russ-e-a interfering in our elections.

Interesting dialogue, obviously none of the liberals can even phantom that they are no better or worse than the people they are criticizing…. this dialogue sort of proves that… carmen was inconsiderate but the coyote family were mioptic in their views, and just as rude.Lately, from what I hear and read the democratics are just poor sport and should growth up and join the rational world….None of the policies enforced are new, get over it folks.. this separation issue is a farce, as we routinely do it to single parents who are arrested and have children, I don’t hear anything about that?

It should also be remembered that it’s reported that those keeping the children prisoner are being paid $700 per day per kid.

No reports about whether Mexico will pay for it.
