I went to a parochial school for first grade in 1961. The guard, I mean teacher, used to put that old tough plastic tape on kids’ mouths if they talked too much. I didn’t get that, but I once got whacked on the knuckles with a ruler because I wrote within the low lines of the Big Chief Note Book, not the high ones as instructed. I started school already knowing how to write and didn’t need to make letters the size of a nickel. To this day my handwriting is twice as tall as everyone else’s.
