An alternative theory states that if you tax us more, it will cause the cost of everything to go up as we raise prices to maintain profit ahead of tax inflation.
There is no question that if the overall economy is healthier, everyone is better off. There is also no question that high marginal tax rates demotivate people. If you were offered an opportunity to work overtime, but taxes would take 80% of it, would you bother? One huge problem in the economy today, an elephant no one ever talks about, is that the welfare system has essentially created extremely high tax rates on the poor. If they work more, they get paid, but they lose benefits. The net result is that they have very little to show for it, or worse, they might even be worse off, if they lose more in benefits than they are paid. One reason for a widening gap between rich and poor is that the poor are trapped in a roach motel system of welfare, from which they have little incentive to escape.
treesareusNo, under capitalism, like communism (1% in capitalist, 5% in USSR) the rulers get the best while the rest get maintenance, if that. Under free enterprise (of which socialism, like cooperation and sole ownership, are sub-groups), the feed trough is big enough for all to eat the same food at the same time. You don’t scare me with “socialism” which you obviously know nothing about; I have lived under it and had the highest standard of living in my life. I have also had a sole ownership, and several co-ops. Free enterprise, in all its forms, is definitely the way to go.

How about a set tax. 25 %. Rich still pay way more than the poor. We just all pay the same rate? N
