Here’s another one. The Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw is said to have joked that the word ‘fish’ could legitimately be spelled ‘ghoti,’ by using the ‘gh’ sound from ‘enough,’ the ‘o’ sound from ‘women’ and the ‘ti’ sound from ‘action.’ ”

People complain about what their kids are being taught in school, but a quick look at comments anywhere proves that most of them aren’t learning what they are taught.

Just three days ago Pickles was about “I could/couldn’t care less” and everyone started expressing their grammatical pet peeves, yet no one had mentioned today’s trio.  I said I was surprised that no one had brought up these three and speculated that these types of errors (as opposed to misquotes) are only apparent when written.  These mistakes can make following the writer’s line of thought hard, if not nearly impossible, to follow.  However, try to correct them and you’re branded a grammar Nazi.

This would drive early versions of MS Word crazy. No matter which there, their, they’re you typed, it would suggest one of the other ones. Then, after you accepted one of the alternate spellings, it would recommend the version you had just replaced.
