HR lay-off guy came for my computer. I had a back-up hard drive. He said I could keep the hard drive since I paid for it. Of course I wiped it…..

It has a treasure trove of browsing history.

“It doesn’t work, too.”

I used my own computer at work. But then, I didn’t exactly have any “company secrets” on it.

Way back, I once got asked to clean up a work computer used by someone who’d left abruptly. (Tiny company, no IT department at the time.)

Let’s just say, his choice of websites to visit while at work was… eye opening.

Our former IT guy was escorted off the property without being allowed to collect his personal property. Later, we heard that he had been arrested for child porn.

Let him keep it. Those vintage Etch-A-Sketch toys aren’t worth much, anyway.

When we went from a Mom and Pop to Corporate nightmare with an IT dept., I turned in my new company laptop before I even turned it on and got my own. The IT guy warned us old guys that the new overlords were having spyware installed on all the company units. Also, the new units had about 1/3 the storage and memory as my own laptop.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what happened when I retired.

You’ll want to use bleach on that hard drive, and not the app, I mean literally a bucket of Clorox and wear rubber gloves.

Got rif’d 20 y/ago. Part of the deal was to delete my own information. Simple cleanup of my computer; Fdisk Never looked back.

Plenty of spyware.

So, this was the first subtle hint of them retiring….
