Living in France, I’ve seen that last gesture a few times. True story: my brother and sister-in-law were visiting, here. We went shopping. An old guy we knew asked us, as we walked through the parking lot, if we would give a push to another old guy whose old(!) car wouldn’t start. We pushed his car easily until it started, and as he drove off, waving his thanks, my sister-in-law, thinking of Rosie the Riviter, showed her muscles. The old dudes laughed. When we explained her faux-pas to her, she was totally embarrassed. As Benny Hill would say, it was too late to apologize!
