Aww, c’mon folks! It wouldn’t be funny if the cat didn’t get into mischief. She thinks the cat in the mirror is a buddy, and she’s warning her that Rose is coming up behind. I think it’s hilarious. I’ve seen our cats thread through a dresser top cluttered with flower vases, a jewelry tree, and other knick-knacks and not disturb a thing. You don’t dare try to take them off or scare them off, that would result in disaster! But just hold your breath and watch them do it.

One of our cats saw himself in a mirror once, and nearly scared himself to death. A few years later, he spent a couple of months watching filmmaker Albert Karvonen’s work on television every Saturday. He got thoroughly upset when an Arctic Fox was creeping up to a ptarmigan’s nest, and began swatting at the screen at some of the animals. We tried to tell him that the brown bear wasn’t something to attach, but he was having too much fun. We watched Star Trek that spring, then leave the tv on for Tobermory to watch his show. After that, he’d come out to the garden to watch us. :)

My cat doesn’t jump onto counters, but I did find him curled up on top of my laptop once; luckily it was closed so he didn’t damage anything.

I liked the facebook poster of the kitten on the laptop saying, “If not for sits then why made of warm?”

you have noticed that Peekaboo goes outside? A declawed cat outside is a disaster about to happen. I have had kitten claws “trimmed”, the very very sharp tips taken off, but never ever declawed; just in case … no, my cats aren’t indoor/outdoor … but Peeks is …

what’s with this guy illustrating a cat that does stuff i’ve never seen a cat do? i don’t get the line of thought here. it’s almost as if we have a cartoonist trying to be “cat-cute”, while never ever having had a cat in the house. he just never knows what he’s doing, here.

Anyone who thinks declawing a cat is being a responsible pet owner should never be allowed to have pets.

People who let their cats roam outdoors are a menace to those of us who love birds (constantly chasing off cats who prowl my garden -some may have homes, but I would never know)

I love to see the cats in friends homes (just do NOT want them hanging out in my garden)!!

Declawing involves amputating the first digit of each kitty finger and can cause medical issues, such as infection and issues with their feet. Cats normally walk on their toes, and amputating the first part of the toes can cause problems.

My kitties are indoors only because I don’t want them to get hurt by other cats, dogs, cars, etc. I try to make sure that the stuff they can knock over isn’t easily breakable. It’s harder finding plastic or metal vases, but you can find them if you look.

My cat never kicked anything on purpose, but he sure did admire his reflection. But he was a very handsome boy.

Cats seldom claw except in self-defense (“kneading” in the lap is another matter – puncture rather than slash), but declawing is an almost sure way to make them biters.

    1. Kitty does not see the mirror image as itself but as another cat, and is giving it good advice.2. Apart from elephants and primates, cetaceans (specifically dolphins) are mirror self-aware. Google “can dolphins recognize themselves in the mirror”, first hit is National Geographic.
