Been there more than once. Actually, ignored for five hours and when I finally had a well-planned teacher scolding, did they finally discover it was still on the lot. After that each time I went, some scurried out of the way, but never had a wait after that.
We had the Wait from Heck when we bought our latest car. We arrived early on a Friday morning – around 9. By noon we were very hungry and ready for lunch but were told it wouldn’t be much longer. Then the salesman said, “Excuse me; they brought lunch for us and I’d better grab mine before there’s nothing left.” We finally got to leave at around 2. We were so hungry that we stopped at the first food place we saw, which was a McDonalds. I hadn’t eaten at a McD’s in over 30 years (I remembered why while there). There were a lot of other issues with the place, which I won’t get into, except to say that we didn’t get our car until 3 days later. We won’t get a car there again.
Vicki has finally met someone who’s as unflappable as the late Buster Keaton. I too have had my share of long waits when getting my car worked on at car dealers, but since I had worked in a couple of them, I know that there will be times that parts aren’t available & need to have a parts driver pick them up at another dealership or the parts needed have to be ordered or (worst case scenario) the parts are back ordered for an indefinite period of time. In the case where repairs were extensive and they needed to keep my car there a few days, a loaner car was made available for my use.
Kinda feel the teensy bit sorry for the mechanics at my dealer. Took my 2003 Dakota in for oil change and inspection. Sitting in waiting room watching for the expected visit from manager to tell me how many other things need doing.
His trouble started when he said they needed to drain and flush the transfer cases in my 4wd truck.
As gently as possible, I replied, ‘But it’s a 2wd drive. No transfer cases.’ He gulped, turned red and retreated thru the door. As he left I noticed the other waiters were waiting for my reaction.
I said, ‘And he’s a mechanic!’ which gave us a good laugh all round. Started up the conversation and turned a long wait into a good chat with strangers.
But, I have never returned to that dealer. Wonder why.

If Rose was as tough as her alter ego appears, she wouldn’t be sitting around, but bicycling home or out for a jog.

This is why I always bring a book to every appointment. Doctor, dentist, car, whatever.
