I have 3 cats; a 5 yr. old tortie, Calli, and 2 males, Bailey, a ginger tabby, and Bing, a siamese mix, who are 3 yrs old. Bailey has more than once opened treat bags to get into them, and recently clawed into a 3.5lb. bag of food to get into it. Last Christmas Eve I was cooking and heard him into something and saw that he had ripped into a bag of treats. Took them away and resumed my cooking. Few minutes later, he had gotten another bag and was at it again! So I scolded him and took those away! (I can’t recall right now how he kept getting them). Few minutes later he got something else, maybe some dog treats that I keep for neighbor’s dogs, but that was IT! They are not really finicky and I usually free-feed them (dry food is left out for them all the time). He did not like the brand that was out and he was letting me know it! It was a pretty good brand, too. But he was having no more of it, LOL. But even a few days ago, when I let the food bowl get low, he tore into a bag that was close to get into it.
I had a cat who had discovered that if she bit through the corner of a carton of milk she would get milk. Then she discovered that whatever was left in the carton, if she bit as low as possible she would always get milk. As she knew how to open cupboards I had to put my milk under lock, to the amazement of my friends.
It may have been dog food, but I remember a photo shared where the packaging said, “If only they could open the package.” The photo showed where the pet had chewed a hole in the package to get at the food. :-D
My daughter’s Manx cats quickly learned how to help themselves to the kibble. Bags of food had to be kept hidden away. They also learned how to jiggle the front door to get out when the other cats in the “hood” came by and wanted to play.
I had a late date and came home expecting my four cats to be meowing for food. However, Wilamena the Radio cat had scaled the refrigerator, ripped open a bag of kibble, and scattered the largesse to the hungry mob below. She was quite resourceful that way.
We keep our dry catfood in 5gal plastic buckets. If we have a bag in the house it gets torn open right away; we have to lock it up in the furnace room until a bucket is available. And I’ve seen our Charlie tuxedo cat trying to get the lid off the bucket!

That kitchen floor is so clean, anyone could eat off it.

Then comes the next part: snubbing the whole lot.

And the cute little fur-ball will give Rose the innocent — “Who me? I didn’t do anything.” look.

My cats swear if I just leave the food container out, they’ll only eat when they’re hungry….
