Years ago, my purse was stolen from my car while I was taking in the groceries…. months later, two little boys found it in the woods behind their house, with my ID still in it (but not the credit cards, or cash)… My husband gave them $10 for returning it, to encourage them to stay honest about finding things. :)

I once found a twenty dollar bill on the floor at work. I put out an email saying if they could identify the denomination and serial number they could come get it.

I have found money at least 5 different times. A wallet at an intersection, the guy said he had set it on the side of his boat, and left it there when he towed it home. An envelope full of cash and checks in a hotel parking lot. The checks were made out to the same person which made it easy to return. A wallet on a bus belonging to an airman at MacDill AFB. A wallet with credit cards but no cash, I got help from the credit card company in locating her. I found a $50 on a tee box at a golf course. I drove ahead and talked to the golfers playing in front of me, but all said they weren’t missing money. I’ll bet one of them didn’t even realize he had dropped it. I figured a $50 is a weird denomination and if someone said they were missing a 50 that would identify the rightful owner. At college I found a wad of cash on the sidewalk. I put an ad in the paper. There was Canadian currency mixed in with it; making it identifiable. If it had just been U. S. currency I wouldn’t have bothered. Over the years I have had most of the stuff I have lost returned; credit cards, cellphones, Bluetooths, my cymbal case with about $2000 worth of cymbals, a pair of expensive sunglasses; it makes me wonder if that whole karma thing is true.

Years ago, I worked for a private ambulance company. My partner and I spotted a woman drive off and leave her wallet on the top of her car. We retrieved it, got her address from her license and went to return it. I knocked on the door and went to hand it to her and she demanded I stand there while she checked it to see if I had stolen anything. I was quite insulted and let her know that.
