I hate those tipping programs. Upsets my entire day when I run across one. Stopped going to Starbucks because of that. I do tip at restaurants, just not at fast food places.

I detest tipping. I wish servers were paid more, put it in the price of the food and call it a day. How long before our options start at 30%?

Sometimes, I can barely afford the food – never mind that generous a tip.

I would gladly tip during the height of the pandemic to help out with struggling businesses at the time. But now, not so much. It has really gotten ridiculous and seems to be a particular “American” problem.

You brought this upon yourself, Fillmore. If you would have given Hawthorne the tip, you wouldn’t have gotten pinched a second time.

Not just “what happened to 15%” which was the former standard for good service at a sit down restaurant where the water took your order and delivered the food but there were 5% and 10% standards for other places like buffets where the waiter only brought drinks and cleared away used plates or places where you ordered your food at a counter and the waiter brought it to your table. I mean 20% or even 15% at a place where all they do is make your special order coffee???

Tips are about to take a fall. Right now they’re in a “bubble” state.

My mother was a waitress for most of my life. The last time she worked as one the pay was $2.35 an hours. 30+ years!!! and it is still the same. What people don’t realize is that the government uses the sales receipts and applies an automatic 8% of that to their pay. Mom would add up her tickets every night. There are some places that do it automatically, but go into any Waffle House at shift change and they still have a calculator out doing it just like Mom. So I still tipped that unless it was VERY bad. That has only happened twice, and one of those I actually just put three dollars on the table to cover the drinks and we left. I know what a bad night looks like, but there was no excuse for that. A baseball team had come in and they were deemed more important that the lady with 2 children. What is sad is I was always considered a great tipper because of my mom. I however do NOT do the amounts that are listed above. Is this a thing now? 10% was regular and 15% was great. I delivered pizzas for years. $1-2 was the norm. The first night I worked I had kept exact records of how much was tipped. It was Domino’s. The manager cashing me out had already put in $1. The computer required them to put in something. When I figured out the wear and tear on my car was going to require extra tax preparation to be able to claim it I said screw it and stopped worrying. I always tip at least $5 since I know the wear and tear.

18% of WHAT, exactly?
