On a more serious note: The engine and drive train of an electric vehicle are VERY much easier to work on, so in fact, layoffs are coming. Not a good time to specialize in gas/diesel engine maintenance. Or transmissions.
I claim to be “dumb from the neck down.” I consider it a major accomplishment to be able to assemble a shelf from a kit. Anyone who is skilled with his or her hands has my admiration.
I remember when cars had carburetors, and sometimes in Winter you could start them by removing the air intake cleaner on top and sticking a screwdriver in the butterfly valve while someone else pumped the gas and turned the key ….
as I said, 50 years as an auto mechanic,,,, took 2 years of mechanical engineering….. “I” ran out of money to complete the schooling when I was 30.that still only makes me a mechanic. and OK with it.
