Is money killing politics? Let's try campaign finance reform for real. Since donations from wealthy people corrupt politicians, all donors earning more than $100,000 are verboten. (Man 1: Good idea- get your donations from real people!) (Man 2: Lunacy! Real people are broke- and cheap!) No public servant may work for a corporation after leaving office. (Man 1: That would get big business' teeth out of the people's business!) (Man 2: Great- maybe I'll survive by selling crank!) No government official may so much as talk to a citizen who earns over $100,000) (Man 1: I already do this and I'm perfectly happy.) (Man 2: If poor people are so cool, how come I don't know any?) No one who earned more than $100,000 in any of the last 10 years may run for office. (Man 1: Yeah! Why would rich guys want a pay cut- unless it was to line their pockets?) (Man 2: I live only to serve scum like you.) And to eliminate the temptation of bribery, politicians will get big pay raises. (Man 1: This is bull!! We need a military coup!) (Man 2: Who am I to stand against the winds of change?)
