Okay, if you’re a troll, don’t read this comment. I am going to drivel again.
Mary and I saw Mark in the hospital on Monday. Mary hasn’t been able to get there before this because she works long hours and it’s about a 3 hours drive each way. I haven’t made it recently because of work, getting behind on my garden and because on a couple of my days off, I’ve had my car at the mechanic getting work done on it. I needed brakes for one thing.
Anyway, since we had not seen him lately, we were stunned by his progress. He had not told us they took out the trach tube and he can talk now. They put a phone in his room today so we can call him now. He is walking by himself with no cane or walker. He ate his first “solid” food since the accident on Monday. They gave him chocolate pudding. He is able to sip a little water through a straw. Today (Tuesday), they are going to run a test that will track where food goes when he eats (to make sure it’s going down the right way and ends up where it’s supposed to. He doesn’t have the neck brace anymore either. And early on, they told us he would be in a body brace but that never happened. He is able to remain upright without any kind of brace. They still can’t say how soon he will be out of the hospital, but it sounds good that it may be soon. He will need a short stay after that at a nursing home for rehab. But he is certain to be home before our niece’s wedding in September so he will be able to go to that. He is very happy about that! Mark looked so good, he really blew us away! He gets up and walks 3 times a day and he’s walking pretty fast. Mary was especially happy that Mark bears no ill will towards her for the accident. He would have been mad if she was driving drunk, but she had no alcohol in her body (she isn’t a drinker – just a little wine every now and then). Mark has been getting tremendous support from friends and he appreciates all of the TC’ers here who have kept him in their thoughts and prayers. Thanks to all of you!
