I survived Christmas eve at Walmart with my sanity fully intact! As it turned out, we had most of our registers open and while at times we had long lines at every register, I was never needed to backup cashier. It actually was a very good day.
On another note, I was debating whether to get powdered sugar and make frosting for my niece’s birthday cake or if I should buy canned frosting. The decision was made for me because we were completely sold out of powdered sugar.
I hope all goes well with my family get together. Sometimes things go smoothly (we had a good time last year) and other times, someone gets into an argument and the day is ruined. I’m wondering what will happen this year. My brother Joe asked me last night what usually happens on Christmas (he often does not come). He asked if the women do all the work cooking and then all the work cleaning up afterwards. I said yes that’s pretty much how it happens. We have one really lazy brother who never even takes his dirty dishes to the kitchen. He just sits at the table and lets someone else take his dirty dishes. Well, Joe said that’s going to change this year. Mary and I, along with Daniel and his wife, Terre, tend to do all of the cooking, then we are the ones who clean up while the men sit in the dining room talking. Joe said that this year, the women are going to sit in the dining room talking while the men clean up. I can’t picture John lifting a finger to help clean up. Paul (the one who helped fix up the house) doesn’t know what Joe has planned, but he said he was going to bring paper plates and styrofoam cups so there’s not as many dishes to wash. We always rent the fellowship hall at the church for Christmas so they have 2 stoves, 2 refrigerators and 2 dishwashers. It works well for dinner for 14 or 15 as we have planned.
