NATIONAL MAKE A DOG’S DAY

NATIONAL NUT DAY

NATIONAL COLOR DAY. National Color Day focuses on the impact color has on each of us. It is hard to imagine a world without color. Without color, we would nearly be blind. Doctors check for health through the color of a patient’s skin. On a late, crisp autumn morning, sparkling frost and leaves changing from green to vermillion signal a change of seasons. A flush of color in the cheeks of a friend sends a cue of her embarrassment. The street light turns from green to yellow to red. In the Grand Canyon, layers of sediment range in color from black to pale ash. All these signs alert us to change through color.

NATIONAL MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY. I guess I can make a difference at work today. Inventory is just a couple days away (Monday), so I plan on going in early for overtime hours so I can help get the store ready (and most important, earn some good money which will make a difference to my bank account).

We had a very nice day on Friday and the warm weather is expected to last through Monday. But we have had cold nights and killing frost. And I discovered that Annie likes to be warm. Her favorite place to sleep in the morning is a cat bed I have in my upstairs hallway. It’s in front of an east window so she gets to soak up the sunbeams from the rising sun. And she likes to sleep in my bedroom. So far, I haven’t caught her in my bed at all, but she likes to sleep on the floor register, soaking up the heat from the furnace. I was so close to releasing her and letting her remain feral as so much of what I was reading had said you can’t tame a feral adult cat. One thing I read even said that once they pass the age of 8 weeks or so, it’s difficult to tame even the feral kittens. I had hopes of taming the kittens and I succeeded with 2 of them who are now so loving and affectionate they make pests of themselves. I was hoping those 2 could convince Annie and Panther that I’m not some terrible ogre and that they should start being nicer. But even if she won’t admit it to me, I know that Annie appreciates having a warm house to sleep in. And maybe by winter when the nights turn really cold, she just might start joining me in my bed. But even if it takes a couple years or more before I can pet her, I’m glad that I changed my mind at the last minute and that I decided not to release Annie. I never liked the idea of releasing her, but for a while, it seemed to be what she would have wanted. No, she’s glad I didn’t release her. She’s happy here even if she, like Chesney, won’t admit that I’m her friend.

What’s a ghost to do when he senses rejection?

Wouldn’t a haunted warehouse make it MORE of an attraction to an entrepreneur?

Come on, Annie, cut Chesney and Uncle Herbert a bit of slack.

“We’re so sorry, Uncle Herbert…”

Get rid of Uncle Herbert and you have to make your own tea, Annie!

Aw, that’s too bad. I bet Annie would have liked Uncle Herbert if she had gotten to know him. On another note, saw eight juncos while out walking today.
