Actually, something pretty close to all of these things is available. There are several salmon pates. Delectables has a stew with duck. Fancy Feast has a broth with anchovies, tuna, and whitefish. Toasting a slice of bread should be easy enough.

Nobody seems to serve pheasant anymore. When we got married, we took an in-city honeymoon and ate pheasant and drank Musigny every night. This was 1983. Now a bottle of Musigny costs over a thousand dollars. So we were ahead of our time on the wine, but behind on the bird. I think pheasant will make a comeback.

Why indeed does she hear a can opener? Most canned cat food these days has pull tab lids.

From yesterday’s comments to Jay -

I hope you’re out of the hospital now. What a nasty thing to happen from trying to help a cat. Many years ago, I was bitten by one of my cats. The bite was at the base of my thumb on my right hand. It’s been so many years I don’t remember what brought on the bite, but I knew right away it was bad. I didn’t think to go to urgent care (it was after midnight) even though I knew I had an infection going on. My hand swelled up at the bite and my hand felt hot and I had a fever. That happened in just an instant after being bitten. My thought at the time was yes, I had to see a doctor the next day when the clinic opened. I just went to bed and saw a doctor first thing the next day. I got antibiotics and I was fine. But the doctor warned me not to use my right hand any more than I had to because that could cause the infection to move up my arm and I could actually lose the use of my right arm. Zowie! I had no idea it could be THAT serious! Needless to say, I became a “leftie” for the next week or 10 days, eating, writing, brushing my teeth and doing everything else with my left hand. I found the only thig I could not do with my left hand was to wash my left arm.

Some time after this happened to me, I heard that my vet (one of a few doctors at the vet clinic) was in the hospital recovering from a bite from a cat or dog (I don’t remember which it was). It sure made me glad I took my doctor’s advice not to use my right hand until he said it was okay.

Poor Bluebell! Maybe she needs to keep our boy company on the loading dock for awhile. Left at 4:30 yesterday (another 14 hour day) for shopping and errands up in Carson City/Reno area, but also to see what our massive snowmelt is doing along the eastern Sierra. Many meadows are looking like lakes or are emerald green, and a river I have easily walked across in a low water year is roaring like a waterfall and expected to go over its banks. Snowplows trying to clear the higher passes including the road to Yosemite are encountering solid ice. One historic lodge in the Mammoth Lakes basin was found destroyed from the 50 + feet of snow it received, and many more are feared to to be in the same condition as the snow continues to melt. We really needed the moisture but I hate the damage and struggles for bears and other wildlife to find food.

I’d settle hearing a can opener rather than those blasted, noisy leaf (dust) blowers! The gardening services/homeowners have been asked to coordinate days/times so neighbors do not have to close windows and/or hear hours of daily noise.

The birds are scared away, especially pheasants, or so I imagine…..

Maybe Annie got her canned pheasant. The same brand that gave Charles and Hotlips food poisoning in that M*A*S*H* episode…

Maybe Annie’s opening a can pf salmon pate. If not, Lily will have to settle for cat food. (At least I hope she does, for Annie’s sake.) On another note, saw two rabbits, two damselflies, three robins, and a finch while out walking today.
