Those darned socks!

More than any talks of a debt default or rising inflation, the best indicator of an economy in danger is when the best use of your labor is repairing socks.

For those too young to know, people used to actually mend socks when they got holes – it was called “darning” and was a sort of weaving. Yes; I have darned many a sock.

Mary decided to use all the men’s socks she had bought, in anticipation of being married someday, to make little costumes for her plants.

Astrid was reminiscing from the enjoyable visit of the hockey team by going through her mementos.

“I’m so numb from boredom I’m sewing my fingers to this sock.”

After Margaret found out her husband was unfaithful, she started taking thorns off the rosebush and incorporating them into his socks

Elizabeth had to do a month’s darning, which really made her hate January, March, May, July, August, October, and December; but she was big fan of February.

Glenna wondered how her boyfriends socks kept getting starched.

Jeannie’s boyfriend was named Phil. She darned his socks for him. He thought it appropriately funny that he gift her with what he called a Philo-darn-dren. He thought that was funny. She did not. She had had her fill of Phil. The end.
