Old Nigel realized he wasn’t the man he once was when his granddaughters had more pull than him.

Pat loved his granddaughters, but having to hold in his cussin’ was giving him heartburn.

WHAT DOGS ARE THINKING: “Oh boy, something good is going to happen. Everybody is smiling and happy. I wonder if it includes food. The suspense is killing me.”

Grandpa – the song is “row, row, row your boat” not “pull, pull, pull your boat.”

The girls loved to help Grandpa Pat. They’d all go to the pub after they’d hauled in his boat, and he’d let them lick the creamy head on his pint of Guinness.

Easy way to get your kids to help bring the boats in: Convince them they’re playing tug-of-war with the ocean.

    A Harbour Scene

    https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Arthur_John_Elsley_-_A_Harbour_Scene.jpg

has info and links that point to more info about this roughly jumbo envelope size painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3141 (June 2, 2023) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there (awaiting Mr. Melcher’s approval) pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, first work by him used here.

Why yes … this is the boat that belongs to the guy I don’t like.

Now we just need to pull it another mile inland.

This is another of several Masterpieces for which all of my original Comments (and Replies to others) were deleted by GoComics and not later restored. Nearly a year later I’ve decided to do my best to recreate at least one response for each of those paintings:

/// Gramps and girls pull the rowboat ashore

as though playing a game: tug of war.

    The group’s light-hearted struggling

hides the fact Gramps is smuggling

drugs stored under the vessel’s false floor.

/// “Cap’n Red” knows his grandkids are sweet,

and their dog makes deception complete.

    None who see are suspicious

    that the “Cap’n” is vicious,

and their haul’s worth ten grand on the street.
