So Ishmael isn’t back yet. I have to wonder why suddenly a lot more people have “disappeared” from the comments. Why the sudden crack down and why is it no one seems to know what’s going on? Algorithms Smalgorithms….I think Elon Musk must be at the bottom of all this!/s
Evelyn wanted to prove her parents wrong, she wasn’t just another dumb sorority girl, so she set off to label everything in the backyard. She hesitated as she tried to remember how to spell “tree”.
She thinks that she shall never see/ a surface tempting as a tree/ a tree upon which she may scrive/ her thoughts- while it is still alive/ and when some day that tree must fall/ to make way for a shopping mall/ the name she thereupon has writ/ will, like the tree, have up and “split”.
My first thought was “Why is she tailoring a dress in the woods?” since the moss/lichen on the trunk appeared to mirror the flow of her dress… at least to me.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3142 (June 4, 2023) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there (awaiting Mr. Melcher’s approval) pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, first work by him used here.
This is another of several Masterpieces for which all of my original Comments (and Replies to others) were deleted by GoComics and not later restored. Nearly a year later I’ve decided to do my best to recreate at least one response for each of those paintings:

This is another of several Masterpieces for which all of my original Comments (and Replies to others) were deleted by GoComics and not later restored. Nearly a year later I’ve decided to do my best to recreate at least one response for each of those paintings:
/// She has written a name on this tree.
It’s “ROBERTO,” placed where she can see.
Carmen marks the location
of each feigned defloration
as an aid to her poor memory.
/// She has lain with a great many men
under nearly each tree in this glen.
In response to their urgin’
she’d proclaim, “I’m a virgin!”
That same lie worked again and again.
/// She picks lovers with passion, but gentle,
and such men tend to be sentimental.
If they’re back at this spot
and his name she forgot,
it would be, at the least, detrimental.
