The premise of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical By Jeeves! is that Jeeves’ employer, Bertie Wooster, is scheduled to give a banjo concert as a benefit for his friend the Reverend Harold “Stinker” Pinker’s church, but his banjo has been stolen so he reenacts one of their adventures with help from the parishioners. Some may suspect that the butler did it, but while Jeeves can buttle with the best of them at need, he is, properly speaking, a valet, not a butler. (I played Bumpy Bazely/Sir Watkyn Bassett.)
