The Born Loser by Art and Chip Sansom for October 04, 2015
Transcript:
The Born Loser by Art & Chip Sansom Brutus: Good morning, Gladys! I don't smell the coffee. Is it on, yet? Gladys: We're out of coffee. You'll have to do without it this morning. Brutus: Oh, no! Please tell me you're joking! Brutus: This is catastrophic! I can't wake up without my morning coffee! Gladys: Oh, don't be such a baby! You're making too big a deal about this! Gladys: After all, you're up and dressed - you're obviously awake! Brutus: Clinically speaking, a person is not functionally awake until he has had his morning coffee!

It’s not that I hate coffee, I just never developed a taste for it. I get by fine caffeine free. As a Postal worker I got up at 3AM every morning without the aid of caffeine. Now retired, I’m healthier than I would be if I drank coffee all my life.

I’m with stlmaddog5 – I don’t actively hate coffee, I’ll drink it if it’s all that’s on offer, but I just don’t have the taste for it. I like it as a flavouring in cakes and so on, and I like the smell, but as a drink it seems a bit sickly and not nearly as thirst-quenching as tea. But he’s wrong about one thing – coffee is now thought to be very good for your liver, so he and I would both probably be healthier if we liked the sickly stuff.

My Granddad started the day with a glass of vodka and a shot of milk.

I started drinking coffee during study sessions in college but it had to be doctored up with cream and sugar. Then, later, I worked in a chemical plant on the evening shift there would never be cream or sugar left so I learned to drink it black. Still needed the caffeine kick. The wife and I recently took a cruise to the Mediterranean and the coffee they served aboard ship was an Italian blend called Lavazza that I really liked a lot and I now order that brand by the kilo from Amazon.

Not a coffee drinker. Love the smell, hate the taste. My parents and siblings are all coffee drinkers but I could never stomach it. Oddly enough, I’m also the only one in my family that didn’t start smoking. Although, they have all since quit that nasty habit. But still can’t function without their coffee.

Love coffee. Started drinking it in HS with milk and lots of sugar. Cut out the sugar in college, but didn’t cut out the milk (half &half actually) till about five years ago. I’m nearly 64 and if I were not afraid of needles, I’d hook up an IV every morning to start my day!!!

I use my coffee maker for hot tea. Just put in loose tea instead of coffee, brew as usual. I’ll drink coffee only if someone else makes it and hands it to me. I still have my percolator we got as a wedding present 50 years ago!

Didn’t anyone notice they used the last of the coffee yesterday? How can people “run out of coffee”? Unless a burglar broke into their house in the middle of the night and stole the coffee.

My grandfather Ralph Lyons (R.I.P) once told me: :You don’t need coffee to get you up in the morning, you only need God."

I hate coffee – tasted it just once. I survived 3 years in the Army with no coffee addiction – unlike everyone else. I won’t eat anything coffee-flavored either. What a awful taste/flavor.

There are many smells and taste that evoke memories..Bacon, the smell of fresh buttered toast.Mom had chrome containers of sugar, flour, and coffee..It was fifty years ago I first appreciated the smell of Hills Brothers coffee..(probably 49 years ago I took my first taste of glorious coffee)

Tired it once or twice. Too bitter for me. Drink tea on rare occasions. Most people I know drink coffee. I don’t begrudge them that. I will kiss my girlfriend if she has had coffee.I forget, was there anything else?

The other day I read an article where they touted coffee as being a health drink, there were all sorts of things that promoted good health, imagine that. The coffee bean is actually a cherry pit, not a bean, how about that? I’ve drank coffee everyday since I was like 14 and I’m 70 now and well above average health-wise. Bottoms up!

I tasted it once back in the early 50’s. Never since; never again!
