The Born Loser by Art & Chip Sansom Telephone: Hi! This is Rachel, from Credit Card Central. I have an exciting offer for you! Brutus: No, thank you, Rachel. I'm not interested in credit card offers today. Telephone: Hi! This is Rachel, from Credit Card Central... Brutus: Hey, you're a computer voice program, designed to make me think I'm talking to a real person, aren't you? Telephone: Hi! This is Rachel... Brutus: I want you to end this call and remove my number from your call list! Telephone: Hi! This is... Brutus: *@#*!!! Gladys: You just cussed out a computer program - don't you realize it doesn't care what you say about it? Brutus: Maybe not, but it sure made me feel a whole lot better!

Sorry Brutus, it only makes you really feel better if “Rachel” actually stops calling you… and she never quits. She’s not a real woman. You can cuss her out every time she calls, and she’ll never feel insulted… or feel hurt… or feel like not speaking to you ever again. She just keeps coming back for more.

I would be Great fun to make messages and send them to people you do not like, and listen to what they say. Try to sell them some weird stuff, and see what the say and try to get the credit card number. Just need the right program, and a phone with a number that ain’t mine……

Lately I’ve been pressing one to talk to a real person… then “reminding” them I’m on the Do Not Call List. And the calls that claim to be from “Microsoft?” I tell them to get a real f*cking job!

I simply do not answer my phone unless it is listed in my phone contacts or I recognize it, out of my Area Code ones I ignore. If it is important they can leave a message or it isn’t important anyway. My Phone, My Air Time, My Choice !

He can easily end the call himself and block the number they called from. Why get upset about a problem that is easy to fix?

I don’t mind cold calls, and scam artists if I have some time to kill(and I usually do) .I enjoy giving them a run-around for a few minutes. Its funny how annoyed some of them get when they realize I’m wasting THEIR time! Go figure.

Answer the phone and just set it down. Let them listen to the TV or some child screaming or dog barking. Blow a whistle into the mouthpiece when a person comes on the line.

An answering machine helps, but you need to constantly clear the recordings of callers hanging up. Caller ID helped at first, but with widespread spoofing, it is becoming less helpful. And don’t ever call back one of those numbers, it may belong to an innocent 3rd party. I used to refuse to answer out of area calls, but now, they often spoof a number in your own area.

With calls, I answer in Gaelic. With junk mail, I return what they send, shredded, in their postage paid return envelope.
