I live in the country. By sunset I wasn’t sure if Russia had started bombing us or if someone was removing stumps with diesel and fertilizer. With the price of Diesel and Fertilizer I was thinking it had to be Russia.
Same with me and OSU football games! Unobstructed views, no line in the restroom, cheaper food and drink, parking right next to my seat. No yahoos lobbing f bombs. And free!
Happy and Safe Independence Day Ye Born Losers. Grateful, Thankful and Blessed. All gave some. Some gave all. Born in the Yoo Ess Ayyy and where ever ye be! If you’ve ever been in combat – even fireworks on TV is a downer. Sudden loud noises/bangs can cause one to hurt themself. Flash backs. Four purple hearts in my family. War is terror in Ukraine – not tv fun and entertainment. May they endure and win. Prayers.
Fireworks on TV is not the same. It’s actually, just not right; unless, of course, you have no other way to watch them. Happy Fourth to one and all. We have a lot to celebrate in spite of comments to the contrary. This is still the greatest country in the world…..
What ? You don’t miss sitting on damp grass, after broiling in the sun, mosquito’s, kids flying Frisbees into your food and drink, sitting in a 3 hour traffic jam in the parking lot(after a deafening 1/2 hr.display)……………
I have taken hundred of photos at many fireworks shows, and where you’re sitting can make quite a difference. The only thing that doesn’t appeal to me is watching them on TV. But it seems like Uncle Ted is going to enjoy himself. Happy Fourth, Uncle Ted!
I just thought of another way to avoid the explosions set off by my neighbors. I could take a train ride some place and come right back in time for it all to be over. Trains should be loud enough themselves to drown out the noise. Bonus, I can take my therapy dog with me as she is certified.
Back in the 80s when I lived in Montreal I remember going to the former EXPO 67 (Man and His World) site to watch 12 countries compete over 2 weeks every July putting on dazzling fireworks shows. Great times and great memories. I love the smell of gun powder in the evening and little bits of burnt paper raining down.
looks like our town will be staging the annual fireworks show in august again after a couple years’ hiatus – should be able to watch it over the harbor from comfortable seats in our driveway…

I liked looking down at them from a top-floor observation deck in Chicago.

You’ve seen one fireworks show you’ve seen them all! Just like parades.

Considering that the fireworks are exploding in the sky up above, I’m not sure there’s much difference in being “up front” or “in the back”.
