Anybody ever read the last card on The Big Bang Theory or Young Sheldon? It is a hoot. It is quick so you have to pause the TV. Always got something to say!
I don’t miss the writers or the actors at all. I have been watching shows that were on in the 1950’s and 60’s for a long time. There is where you can find some great actors and good writing. As far as I’m concerned the writers ans=dactors and stay on strike forever. What the writers now a days think is funny is stupid. And the actors thinkm they are better than they really are. Johnny Crawford who played Mark McCain was probably one of the best actors of all time. He had the world believing he was Mark McCain.
That’s what dvd’s are for. I like buying dvd’s of my favorite movies and shows. Problem is some of those shows are current and if they stop filming we may never get the new season. Lucky for me some of my favorite shows are British and won’t be filming in Hollywood.
“Reality” shows are somewhat of a misnomer. More like scripted “unreality.” The only reality shows I watch are Swamp People and Forged In Fire. I do hope Forged will return this fall. Game shows? Jeopardy and the occasional Wheel of Fortune. Yes. Yes, I am old…
This is when I subscribe to a pay premium sports channel. At least the rules of baseball had already been written down long before the writer’s strike started!
I’m one who supports the strike. Now although there are many shows on TV that I don’t care to watch, there are many others that I do actually like and never miss. It basically comes down to an individual’s particular tastes. Same goes for theatrical movies which will be affected way more than TV as we could live on TV reruns forever if need be.
@AlondraRachellaLabute- That’s why the only channel I pay for is Paramount. Tubitv has some pretty good stuff on there, too. Sometimes I’ll look at Crackle. To me, internet TV is so much more practical! (If you have a decent laptop or desktop).
Brutus – go to the back of the TV. You will find a plastic cord. Follow that cord toward the wall. There you will see that the cord is connected directly to the wall. Pull on the cord, not too hard but hard enough for it to come loose. Don’t give up yet, we’re almost done. Once the cord is loose wrap it around the TV in such a way that it won’t dangle on the floor and possibly trip you (Born loser and all that). Now pick up the TV and have someone open the outside door for you (again we don’t want the “Born loser” genetics kicking in). Go to the curb and set the TV down. Now you are free to go back to the house. Enjoy your life, without any worry about the dumb-down box. I know I have thoroughly since I did this 35 years ago. Oh and if you wish to have it disappear faster than waiting for trash pick-up day and so that you aren’t tempted to possibly bring it back into the house, just post it as a curb alert on Craig’s list. You’re welcome
Are you kidding me? Have you seen the drivel coming out of Hollywood over the past 15 + years? I tapped out of TV sitcoms back then because they all became what I call “Dummy Dad” shows, every dad was a dummy. When was the last time anything out of Hollywood showed a positive dad or husband? More recently, you had a show that the original author provided a full outline, it was essentially paint by numbers, but Amazon STILL hired writers who could not write themselves out of a wet paper bag to write Rings of Power and totally screw it up. I say good riddance!
Funny. I didn’t even know that there was a strike until it was a news story. Seems like the same old tripe as always. There’s so much stuff streaming that no one should really care. And for those that can’t or don’t stream, we are in summer reruns anyway. There’s always dvds. Don’t overlook a good book. You could always get to know the family again by going out to the parks or just talking. Actually, that last one won’t work for Brutus as his tv time is his escape from the family time…..
Our son in law owns a “prop house”. He laid off all his employees. Other small business near studios are laying off employees….keep in mind these small businesses do not have unions. It pains me to see Congressman Adam Shiftless marching around with his strike sign. It pains me to see millionaires marching around with their strike signs. They couldn’t care less. There are a few helping out small businesses/restaurants…….such as Drew Carey. The issues are legit….these are issues no one even thought of a few years ago. This is unchartered ground. I speak of AI and streaming profits.
Starbucks has jobs & there are always lkbfd rallies to go to. So what’s the problem? TV is in summer reruns, the Worst possible time to try & strike. Burger King needs servers too. Once they dumb down AI enough to make it think there are dozen of sexes, they are gone anyway!
Tubi, Pluto, Crackle, Netflix, Vudu, Paramount, Hulu, etc…there are so many shows and movies out there that I haven’t seen, I don’t miss the writers/actors while they are on strike. I am keeping myself entertained…
Somebody beat me to the Joni Mitchell’s Big Yellow Taxi, “you don’t know what you got till it’s gone.” So I offer this gem from Bob Dylan’s TV Talking Song on the sadly underappreciated Under the Red Sky album: “It [the television] will led you into some strange pursuits,Lead you to the land of forbidden fruits. It will scramble up your head and drag your brain about,Sometimes you gotta do like Elvis did and shoot the d*** thing out.”Thank you gocomics for censoring me!
Briefly tried Pluto, Tubi and a few others. All the forced commercials (can’t fast forward) just ruined it for me. My alternatives are Acorn (British movies and series), and Brit Box (same stuff).
With a whole lotta luck, they will stay gone. They sure seem to think they are important when they are just some of the most useless jobs in the world. Have you ever heard anyone…anyone….that needs help, ask for an actor or a writer?? They could leave the face of this earth and nothing important would change.
They should just give the writers what they want. Some of the shows get so much money from advertising, why hold out on writers? Without them, there’s no show at all. Let the overpaid producers and stars take a little less. They won’t starve.
I’m failing to see any difference. Of course, I watch only Turner Classic Movies (TCM) which seems to be the only station that has anything worth watching.
I hope this strike is settled soon. The last one bred reality TV, which spread like a virus. It’s scripted and costs little to produce. We are stuck with it. We don’t need another “viral” discovery like that.
This is when I go on Amazon Prime, or when I subscribe to Acorn TV and/or BritBox for a month or so. They have some great shows with great plots, and the scenery alone makes them worth watching. I’m watching a cop show that takes place on Shetland Island, and it’s a fascinating place. However, I have yet to see one Shetland Pony, so maybe they’re all in another part of the island. :-)
Even when nobody is on strike that is all there is on TV anymore, game shows, stupid reality shows, NCIS everywhere and shows like that, and reruns of home remodeling shows, where are some good sitcoms so we can have a laugh or 2? I dumped cable and got an antenna for some shows and use Prime and the cheap HULU for comedies.
There is that saying you don’t appreciate certain things until they are lost or gone. However, in this case they WILL find their way back into your life like a bad penny. However, this time it will cost you a nickel or another minute less of the show for another commercial…..
