My dad used to make really great liver and onions, breaded and in a cast iron frying pan. I think part of it is the way liver is cooked, and how thin it is sliced.
Mom had two dishes that were awful smelling. Calf kidneys boiled for stew made the house wreak of the smell of cow pee. Second was parboiled dried cod fish that made the whole block wreak of the smell of fish.
I don’t think my mother ever served us leftover liver and onions, it was hard enough having it only one night. All of us hated it except my mom, she truly loved liver and onions. Years later when I was working at a restaurant she came in with friends and ordered the liver and onions. I think she was the only customer I ever brought that order to. Surprised me it was on the menu.

She is a plague up the land, her mother’s daughter. I must be spoiled, after the liver loses its heat, it becomes dog food, no leftovers involved.
