According to Snopes site, those were just nicknames given by the crew. The real ships names were La Santa Clara for the Niña, La Santa Gallega for the Santa Maria, and not sure about the La Pinta, which probably was censored by the church, since Pinta is somebody naughty.

Santa Maria: The largest of the three ships, and originally named La Gallega. The ship’s full name was La Santa María de la Inmaculada Concepción, which translates to “The Holy Mary of the Immaculate Conception”.

Nina: A nickname for the ship La Santa Clara, which translates to “the girl”.

Pinta: A nickname for the ship La Pintada, which translates to “the painted one” or “the prostitute”. The ship’s real name is unknown.

“Captain, there are rumblings of mutiny.”

Off mike: “Rumble, rumble, rumble. Mutiny, mutiny, mutiny.”

Apparently, they arrived just in time so they could take advantage of the Columbus Day sales.
